AGC met with the building trades and other contracting associations this week to discuss the COVID-19 mandates. The discussion was positive and provided opportunity to share perspectives. The AGC Labor Cabinet has been meeting regularly, discussing, and monitoring each development, and staying informed of the difficulties and opportunities. Each week there is growing speculation that the OSHA ETS will be released “soon." Although we’ve purposely avoided speculating when the ETS guidance will be released, signatory contractors should be keenly aware and following developments closely. We will need to be prepared to respond quickly and discuss next steps once the ETS becomes public. Please direct any questions you may have on these issues to Mike Schechter.

As mandates take effect and employers are forced to consider accommodations, there are key differences between accommodating a religious and disability request. The cost of the accommodation can be a key consideration, or, the cost may be borne by the employee. Attorney Phyllis Karasov with Larkin Hoffman describes this important issue and its consequences here.

From November 1 to March 31, Gopher State One Call business hours are 7 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. Emergency calls are exempt from business hours and are always accepted. All non-emergency locate requests can be submitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week online—but are processed only during GSOC’s business hours.

On Thursday, November 11, Gopher State One Call will observe Veterans Day. Keep in mind that this day will not count toward the standard 48-hour notice needed when filing a locate request. Please also remember that only emergency locate request calls will be accepted through the call center this day.
