PRINCIPAL'S UPDATES

Dear CFMS Families,
 
There is a lot going on at CFMS! In order to meet the academic needs of each student the ELA IREADY assessment was administered this week and the Math IREADY will be given next week. Click here to learn more about the test and score reports.
Our live morning announcements have been a hit. And you can be a part of them! Click here to sign up to be a Remote Mystery Morning Announcer! Detailed directions will be sent to you upon scheduling.
We will host our first Virtual Curriculum and Pedagogy Night on Monday, September 21. The link to the event will be posted to our website at 6 pm! You will then be able to peruse staff slides at your leisure.
We are also gearing up for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Click here for information about the event. Sign up will be available starting September 22nd.

In honor of the first commencement at Harvard College, September 23, 1642, our theme will be College Day on Monday and students and staff are urged to wear their favorite college gear.

Virtual Academy Pick Up
Parents may pick up student materials Biweekly on Mondays between the hours of 8:30 am and 2:00 pm. Please enter the vestibule and know your child's student id. Bookshelves are the mailboxes for each virtual student (labeled with numbers). You can grab what you need and go! Thank you!

LUNCHROOM NEWS
The District continues to offer boxed lunches to all students, regardless of their chosen learning model. All students must pre-order meals from the menus on the District website or in the Nutrislice app. Meals can be ordered from 5 days in advance and up to 7:00 am the day of delivery.

Lunches for afternoon and virtual students will be delivered to students’ homes in time for the afternoon students to eat before boarding the bus for school.

Lunches for morning students will be delivered to students’ classrooms for them to bring home.Please be sure to list the classroom they are in prior to leaving the building after morning classes when placing your order.

Lunches for students who are staying all day will be delivered to the location in the school building where they will be eating.  

Effective Thursday, September 10th, school lunch will be available at no cost to all families in the District. This benefit will continue until December 31, 2020 or until USDA funding runs out, whichever is first. At that time, students’ meal eligibility will be returned to paid status if the family has not submitted a SY2020-21 Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application to the Food Service office. If you anticipate that your student(s) could qualify for meal benefits as of January 1, 2021, please submit an application to the Food Service office as soon as possible to avoid a gap in eligibility.  For more information, please contact Marti Jacobson, Food Service Supervisor, 440-247-5500 x4492, marti.jacobson@chagrinschools.org.  
CONNECTED 2020-2021 T-SHIRTS ON SALE
The Middle School is pleased to offer an opportunity to the staff, students, and parents of students in each of our buildings to purchase our 2020-2021 t-shirt.
The T-shirt promotes our District theme CONNECTED. Our hope is that throughout the school year our building administrators will encourage their building communities to wear these shirts on designated days celebrating our efforts to remain connected to each other regardless if our students are hybrid or virtual. We ask that staff order the gray shirts and students and parents order the orange. Be sure to indicate your student's building and first period or main teacher along with the part of the day your child attends.  Shirt orders will be delivered to your child's teacher to bring home. Virtual families will be able to pick their orders up in the building lobby of their child's school. Proceeds from the sale will go towards Middle School needs not covered in the regular budget. Mumkin and Mumster Pick Up Friday, October 9th from 1-4pm in the MS Parking Lot
Your flower orders will be available for contact less pick up from 1-4 pm in the MS parking lot on Friday, October 9th. Reminders will be sent out the week of pick up. All orders should be picked up by the person placing the orders unless someone ordered using your student link and you made arrangements with them to pick them up and deliver them to them.

  • School fees are established by the Board of Education and cover the cost of consumable supplies, such as student workbooks, planners, paperback books, news magazines, science lab supplies and testing materials. The fee amount for grades 4-8 is $70 and can be paid through Final Forms. Final Forms allows for payment via debit or credit card. There is a 4% service charge added to the fee amount for processing. Parents can still pay the fee by cash or check, made payable to the Chagrin Falls Board of Education, at the school office without incurring the service charge. 

  • School Pictures can be ordered online through MYLIFETOUCH.COM Use our school event code EVTDN77GM

  • Medication in School can be given if we have the proper paperwork on file. Please visit the Health Services website for any forms you may need.

  • Parent Contact Information takes a moment to update. Please ensure that we have the most current contact information on file in both the INFINITE CAMPUS PORTAL and FINAL FORMS. Login is located on the homepage under the PARENTS tab.

  • Attendance Reminders - Please make sure that you call the school (440-247- 4790) if your child will not be present in the school building. Even if students may log in virtually, if they are supposed to physically be in school we need to account for them. Also, if your child cannot attend their virtual classes, please also call in their attendance in order for us to properly designate the absence in Infinite Campus and ensure that the teacher knows not to wait for them to log in.

  • Please make sure to get in the practice of packing book bags at night in order to be ready for the next day. Due to security precautions and the time students spend in the school building we are asking that forgotten items stay forgotten without bringing them up to school. Thanks!
MS YEARBOOKS 2019-2020
Any 8th grade student who ordered a CFMS Yearbook last year and did not get one please contact the Middle School office to make arrangements to get your yearbook. If you did not order one last year there are a few left that are available for $10 purchase by contacting the Middle School office.

Counselor's Corner
We are now a few weeks into this school year and hopefully beginning to settle into routines and figuring out schedules. I know these first weeks have been an adjustment for all of us, as we trial new ways of engaging with students.

As we continue to adapt to being back to school, we know that students are having to learn this new way to approach education along with the typical challenges middle school students face. If at any time I can be of help to your student, please don't hesitate to reach out. My door is always open, and I'm always happy to help any way I can. Please encourage your child to seek out support when he/she needs it.

Mental Wellness Highlight
This month’s topic… Happy Distractions

During periods of chronic stress, finding “happy distractions” can provide important relief. Engaging in enjoyable activities to give yourself and your family a mental break from a stressful environment allows for immediate relief during the activity and can carry over for a period of time after the activity has ended. Movies, music, crafts, bike rides or just about anything else can provide relief if you and your children are able to immerse yourselves in that activity.
