And here's an announcement from our sponsors...
The Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF) is excited to announce a new low-cost self-service subscription site, www.ECF360.org, featuring a variety of new templated and downloadable resources for annual giving/stewardship, capital campaigns and planned giving. ECF will continue to expand and enhance all of these self-service tools in the months to come.
The Episcopal Church Foundation also presents:
¿Quién heredará sus bienes? ¿Cómo se tomarán las decisiones médicas si queda incapacitado? ¿Quién cuidará de sus hijos si usted o su cónyuge no pueden hacerlo? Si no ha pensado en estas cosas, no está preparado. Su estado tomará las decisiones por usted. Escuche a Anna Molin, acompañada por James Murphy del Episcopal Church Foundation, sobre la importancia de la planificación patrimonial.
Planning for Life's Unknowns
We all face unknowns in life. Planning ahead can seem almost impossible, but you can start today with this co-sponsored webinar from Church Pension Group(CPG) and the Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF). Recorded in Spanish, Anna Molin from CPG and Jim Murphy from ECF share strategies and resources for some of the curveballs life throws us.

Countdown to Transmitting Ingathering Offerings to UTO
By Kathy Mank, United Thank Offering Board Financial Secretary
|
|
Only 5 days until Christmas! My neighbor across the street decorates their house with a Snoopy countdown clock which is prominently displayed. By opening my front door in the month of December, I know exactly many days, hours and minutes are left until Christmas Day. In our UTO world of FAQs, the question of deadlines for submitting year-end Ingathering offerings is in the top five behind grant process questions.
NOTE THE DEADLINES
If sending your donations via mail:
please get them in the mail by December 1, 2021 due to the USPS slowdown.
The United Thank Offering
DFMS – Protestant Episcopal Church
PO Box 958983
St. Louis, MO 63195-8983
If donating online:
to ensure it is counted in 2021, please donate by December 15, 2021.
Website: www.unitedthankoffering.org/give
Text to give: INGATHER to 41444
The UTO is supported by the offices of the Domestic & Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church, also known as The Episcopal Church. The offices close in mid-December for Christmas break. UTO deadlines are driven by the mid-December close. We are extremely grateful for the financial, communications and staff support from The Episcopal Church that makes our ministry possible.
Thank you for your year-end gifts and your Christmas gifts to UTO. They are an investment in gratitude manifested in grants to innovative and transformational ministries in the church. Communities throughout the Anglican Communion are blessed by your generosity for the long term.

“El Librito” is ready to ship!
News from TryTank
|
|
Before the pandemic struck, TryTank announced the Spanish Missalette experiment. It aims to save the time a Latino leader spends preparing a bulletin each week. Now that most congregations are back to meeting in person, the books are ready. The missal contains the Eucharistic rites from El Libro de Oración Común and all the Sunday readings between Advent I and the end of the season of Epiphany. As long as participating congregations are willing to participate in a survey before and after using the books, there is no cost for the missals. Interested congregations can fill out an interest form here.

Christmas at Sea
Start making your donations to bring to the BPG!
|
|
Province V of the Episcopal Church’s Big Provincial Gathering will be April 29-30, 2022, in South Bend, Indiana. For this event, we are asking persons to bring handmade items—hats, scarves, ditty bags, etc.—for Christmas at Sea. These will be blessed as part of the Eucharist and then sent to the Seamen’s Institute for distribution.
Every mariner needs a Christmas present, and what better than a warm scarf? The pictured patterns are popular and quick to work up.
Christmas at Sea asks that scarves be approximately 48-50” long and 6.5-7” wide; also, for safety reasons, no fringes or open work please. Any yarn—with the exception of Fun Fur—may be used. When using wool or other natural fiber, please note that on the gift tag so the recipient knows not to put it in the dryer. More patterns and information may be found on this page.
Anyone who has a question about one of CAS’s patterns may ask for mentoring support from a volunteer CAS Angel via email. There is a Christmas at Sea group on Ravelry, and two on Facebook. The second one, called “Untangled”, is private, but you may request to join. All three of these resources have tips & tricks, as well as pictures of others’ work.
Happy hand working! If you have any questions, please email me. – Beth Hall, CAS@ednin.org, CAS Designer & Crochet Angel.

Suicide Survivors: Losing a Close Friend or Family Member to Suicide
A message from the Suicide Prevention Network
|
|
All of those who have lost a close friend or family member to suicide are survivors. This loss changes the entire landscape of their lives. This kind of loss has a long trail of grief which irrevocably changes the survivor. This loss by suicide is a constant presence in their awareness. One trouble with suicide is that no one knows what to say to a survivor. Indeed, there is still stigma about suicide that needs to go away, to be irradicated. As Harold Ivan Smith says in his book A Long-Shadowed Grief: Suicide and Its Aftermath, “Suicide, like a tsunami, rearranges the shoreline forever. No one goes ‘back to normal.’ With God’s grace, in time, a survivor creates a new normal.” p4.
How can we help survivors? Practice saying the word Suicide until it is easy to say without cringing. Reach out and listen. Be a quiet presence to the survivor. Encourage the survivor to talk about their loved one’s life. This is especially important as the holidays approach.
First step: Reach out to the survivor. Welcome their stories. Learn more by reading the book cited above.
Invitation: please join us on the second Thursday of November at 2pm EST as we converse about this book.
Remember to share this number widely:
Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255 or text TALK to 741741
The Suicide Prevention Network meets monthly. Find out how to join in at this page.

LCP
Coaching for those who are
tired and worn out -
OR
ready for continued adventure!
|
|
Leadership Coaching can change your world.
The pandemic has been long...and some people are tired. Coaching can help you see things in new ways and create paths to move forward as a leader.
Some people are excited about all that the world has to offer. Coaching can help you clarify how you want to use your energy and help bring new things into existence.
Coaches are available to ALL leaders – clergy and lay. You can be coached individually, create a group of people, or bring a team together for creating shared goals and plans. Any of them will offer an introductory session so you can together discern if you are a good fit. If you work in a rural area, you might qualify for free coaching. Find out more and explore coaching with a trained leadership coach!
For information on LCP Coach training or to discuss Coaching by one of the LCP Trained Coaches, visit this website or contact Province V Coordinator Heather Barta at provincevcoordinator@gmail.com or (989) 413-3229.

Networking Conversations

Sometimes, networks host webinars to share information and sometimes they develop new resources to support leaders in their local contexts.
There are a number of networks meeting regularly and several that are just getting organized. Most network meetings last about 60 minutes. See their webpages or email their contact for more information.

At our September meeting, we gathered with members of a Becoming Beloved Community "wisdom circle." This group meets for an hour and a half, every other week, to be together in the work of building God's dream for the world. Group members shared some of what makes the group work - no spoilers here, but curious people and the guidance of the Holy Spirit go a long way! You can watch the whole recorded conversation on our network page: https://www.provincev.org/dismantlingracism.html or reach out to Amy Howton from the Diocese of Southern Ohio for more info: amyjhowton@gmail.com
Congratulations to Province V recipients of the 2021 Becoming Beloved Community grants from the church center: Christ Church, Detroit (Diocese of Michigan); the Diocese of Southern Ohio; and Diocese of Chicago for the "Tell Me The Truth About Racism" curriculum development (which will be a training during the Big Provincial Gathering).
