From the Library Director...
During this time of "social distancing," no doubt we are all experiencing cabin fever. But the idea of cabin fever only captures one piece of this difficult ordeal. Yes, it is trying to be restricted from going out and conducting our business or enjoying our recreation safely and freely. However, what I miss even more is the ability to connect easily with family, friends, colleagues, and you, our dear Library patrons.
Despite our doors being closed, the Cornwall Public Library staff is hard at work bringing you as many programs and services online as we can. Our talented Youth Services Department has been busy performing online story times - always with copyright permission from the publishers. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram to watch these with your kids!
Our Adult Services Department recently launched our newest service, Hoopla - an online streaming platform. Hoopla allows you to borrow videos, music, audiobooks, or ebooks free with your library card! We are also working on bringing some of our adult book clubs online; already, our Out & About Book Club has been able to meet via Zoom.
We have also extended the deadline for our 2020 Annual Timothy Mumford Poetry Competition to May 15. Keep those poems coming in by sending them to corpoetry@rcls.org - check out our website for more contest details.
Please continue to check our website and social media pages for updates. We truly look forward to the day when we can see you face-to-face again. Until then, stay home, stay safe, and stay healthy!

Helping the Food Bank
of the Hudson Valley
The library is proud to be a committed community partner with the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. As you may already know, food bank resources across the country are being strained like never before. So, we wanted to let you know that our food bank could really use everyone's help right now. We spoke with food bank representatives and they are asking, if people can, to visit their
website
and make a donation. For every one dollar donated they can provide 4 meals. For every $20.00 donated they can provide 80 meals. Just look for the large "Donate" buttons on their homepage. Together, we can help those in need during this crisis.

2020 Library Vote and Trustee Election
The budget vote and election have been postponed. Per a mandate from Governor Cuomo that all local elections be held after June 1st, the Library Board and Director are working on an alternate plan. Please stay tuned.

Things to know: Patrons have a 5 item monthly limit for materials borrowed through hoopla. However, if 5 titles are not enough, right now they have made extra items available that don't count toward your limit. To access these, look for items in the "Bonus Borrows" collection.

Musical Cornwall Series
We know that many of you are musically talented; we hear you as we walk around the town and village - guitar, piano, harp, bagpipes, clarinet, vocals, and more. Here is a chance to share that talent. Whether you are a beginner, or a professional, please post a video of yourself performing on your Instagram site. Use the hashtag:

New York Times Digital
Get 72 hours of free digital access to the New York Times with your library card. Outside the library, patrons can enter a code, register with an email, and enjoy 72 hours of full access from their computer or mobile devices. Once the 72 hours is up, just redeem the code again. Digital eBooks, Audiobooks and Magazines!
While many of us stay at home to "flatten the curve," don’t forget that the library offers many options for reading or listening to your favorite titles. The Libby App by Overdrive is one of the best options to access the more than 10,000 ebooks and audiobooks.
Libby is compatible with many devices including Kindle, iPad and iPhone, Nook, Chromebook, Kobo, Android and Windows and is available in your phone’s App Store. If you don’t have a mobile device, you can access titles through Overdrive on your desktop computer. For more information, please visit:

We cannot express how much we miss our big and little people who frequent our library. While the world may be changing, what stays the same is our eagerness to see you and share our love of reading. We are learning we can do that many different ways and most recently we are finding out just how creative those ways can get! So until we can be together again, stay home, keep healthy, record your own stories anyway you can, and exercise your reading muscles. We cannot wait to see you!
