National Prescription Drug Take Back Day at Westland Police Station - on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. This is a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs. The Westland Police Station is located at 36701 Ford Road.

William P. Faust Public Library of Westland presents the History of Eloise - on Saturday, April 27 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm in Meeting Rooms A and B, at 6123 Central City Parkway. Back by popular demand is local historian Jo Johnson to conduct a presentation on the former hospital of Eloise regarding its buildings and grounds. Her co-presenter, Marlene McGee, will recount the living conditions during the time the hospital was active in Westland. Registration is open. Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location: 

Historical Commission
  • The Westland Historical Commission will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 30 at 7:00 pm at the Westland Historic Village Park located at 857 North Wayne Road.
  • If you are interested in joining the Westland Historical Society, please stop by any Saturday from 1:00 - 4:00 pm to pick up a membership form and take a tour of the buildings which includes the Eloise Hospital Museaum. Westland Historical Society forms are available on the website at www.whvp66.weebly.com  and their Facebook page.
Friends of the Library Book Sale - on Thursday, May 2 from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm is the preview day (please note that Preview Day sales are for members of the Friends of the Library only, or those who wish to join) in Meeting Rooms A and B at the William P. Faust Public Library, 6123 Central City Parkway. The Friends of the Library operate a Friends Shop which has over 4,000 used books for sale. The book sale will be open Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. The book sale ends on Sunday, May 5 from 12:00 - 3:00 pm, where you can fill a bag of books for only $4.00 (Sunday only). The Friendship Center invites you to the Newburgh Roadshow Antique Appraisal - on Friday, May 3 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. An appointment made at the Friendship Center, 1119 North Newburgh Road, is required if you would like items to be appraised. The cost is $10 for 3 items. There is no charge to attend if you aren't having items appraised.

Westland Salvation Army is hosting the 16th Annual Mom's Baby Shower - on Friday, May 3 from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm. Pre-registration is required by calling (734) 394-8358. This event is for pregnant moms and moms with babies younger than 9 months only (due to limited space this is for moms only - no children, guests or babies). Please be on time -- continental breakfast starts at 9:15 am, guest speakers discussing many topics from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, and lunch and baby shower with gifts and prizes for all from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm.

The Wayne Westland Figure Skating Club Along with the Mike Modano Figure Skating Program proudly presents 2019 Ice Show, Wonders of the World - on Friday, May 3 at 7:00 pm, Saturday, May 4 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, May 5 at 2:00 pm. Tickets purchased before May 2 will be $7 for adults and 4-17 years old and $6 for seniors; after May 2 ticket prices will be $10 for adults and 4-17 years old and $9 for seniors. This show will be at Mike Modano Ice Arena, 6210 Wildwood.

The WYAA Opening Day/Play Ball event - on Saturday, May 4 at 1:00 pm at Jaycee Park, 6200 North Wildwood. Approximately 125 children between the ages of 3 and 10 will kick off their 2019 baseball season with multiple games being played throughout the day. The event will also feature police and fire vehicles, a DJ, the Michigan National Guard and their blow up obstacle course, as well as food and drinks. This event is part of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) continued support of Major League Baseball's (MLB) "Play Ball Summer" initiative, which focuses on the fun nature of baseball and encourages an active lifestyle for kids in all communities. During the summer, Mayors are implementing the initiative throughout cities with the goal of strengthening the connection of communities with the National Pastime.
