Last week we heard from Legislative Council Staff, the nonpartisan office responsible for the publication of the Colorado Blue Book, that there were some errors in printing and mailing out the ballot information booklet.
The Blue Book is mailed to all registered voter households any time there is a statewide measure on the ballot. This year, they mailed over two million copies of seven regional booklets. Each regional booklet has a unique set of judges, decided upon based on the number of judges up for election in each district.
Unfortunately, the printer defaulted to a physical address instead of a mailing address, so those with P.O. Boxes in a number of counties did not receive the ballot information booklet when it was originally mailed. In addition, several pages are also missing and/or blank.
Those who wish to receive a new blue book can email their address to [email protected] or call their office at 303-866-3521. They also have booklets available in their office in Room 029 in the Capitol building, and the booklet is available online Coloradobluebook.com. In addition, all county clerks have copies available for the public. Ballots should arrive this week!
Survey results on District 19 priorities
In my last newsletter edition, I included a link to a Senate District 19 priorities survey. We had 118 individuals respond.
A majority of respondents said that Education (78.8%) was their top priority, followed by Health Care (77.1%). Also in the top five were the Environment (69.5%), Transportation (59.3%) and Housing (44.1%).
There were also a number of issued listed by individuals that were not included in the original list that were also important ranging from net neutrality to reducing gun violence.
I appreciate hearing from you and I hope to incorporate these priorities into my legislative agenda in the upcoming session. If you didn't respond, there is still time to take the survey by clicking on the link below. Thanks!
You may have noticed that I am not campaigning for office this November. The reason is that my term is for four years and I am not up for re-election until 2020. All 65 State House candidates must run for election every two years, and half of the 35 State Senators must run for election this year.
Instead, I've been assisting the
Democratic Senate Campaign Fund in spreading the word about five
Democratic women running in important seats that will make it easier for us to pass important legislation next cycle.
The DSCF is running a
"Get Out The Vote" program to encourage voters to turn in their ballots. If you are so inclined, we would love for folks to support this program by making a contribution.
You've supported me in the past, and I would like to ask that you help support my colleagues by making a donation to the DSCF. Thanks!
