The Orange County Register, in partnership with the Orange County Department of Education, has sought out and recognized talented arts students from around the county for the past six years. ArtsOC at Arts, Culture & Creativity Day in Sacramento

ArtsOC was one of the sponsors of the event, which featured a three-hour rally attended by more than 250 arts advocates from around the state. Stein introduced several of the notables to share their arts impact stories, including Speaker Rendon of Lakewood, Assemblymembers Cottie Petrie-Norris of Laguna Beach and Sharon Quirk-Silva of Buena Park, as well as Assemblymember Ian Calderon of Whittier, one of our earliest champions in the Legislature. Stein also had the opportunity to chat with Senator Ben Allen of Santa Monica, Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on the Arts, Senator Tom Umberg and Assemblymember Tom Daly of Anaheim, Assemblymember Bill Brough of Dana Point and staff members for Senators Pat Bates, Ling Ling Chang and John Moorlach, and Assemblymember Phil Chen. He also congratulated Assemblymember Richard Bloom of Santa Monica whom he had nominated to receive the Californians for the Arts 2019 Legislative Arts Star Award (along with Senator Scott Wilk of Santa Clarita Valley). Stein is Immediate Past President of Californians for the Arts.

48th District Congressional Student Art Competition Winner Announced
|
Remi Frolichman (center, with her parents, right) was the top winner in the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for the 48
th District. Her work will be exhibited in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. for one year. The selection was announced at a reception Monday by
Representative Harley Rouda (left, with wife Kaira). ArtsOC assisted the district office in arrangements, including prize money for the top three artists, made possible through a grant from AT&T. This weekend and next are receptions for the 39th, 45th, 46th, and 49th Congressional districts, also assisted by ArtsOC. This was the very first time that the 48th district participated in the Congressional Art Competition.

DIA DEL NINO
" ATTRACTS 9,000
|
Over 9,000 attendees enjoyed the 8th annual
Dia del Nino festival presented by ArtsOC and Media Arts Santa Ana in collaboration with OC Fair & Event Center, April 13-14. Each day, 15 different performers and ensembles took to the stage and more than 20 hands-on arts workshops were offered. Among the highlights were a group parading throughout the fairgrounds with traditional Oaxacan large-sized mojiganga puppets (above) and Club Tecuanes' Dance of the Jaguar (below). This is a flagship event in ArtsOC & OC Department of Education's annual IMAGINATION CELEBRATION festival.

CITY OF SANTA ANA SEEKS ARTS GRANT PANELISTS

The City of Santa Ana is looking for panelists to serve on the 2019-2020 Investing in the Artist Grant review panel. Panelists are an integral part of the process that supports the creative voices in Santa Ana. We are looking for individuals who have in-depth professional experiences in the arts, arts education, arts administration, arts in juvenile justice, and/or related fields to review and rate grant applications. SANTA ANA MURAL SCENE EXPANDS

OC BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RENEWS ARTSOC'S STATUS AS OFFICIAL LOCAL ARTS AGENCY
|
On Tuesday, the
Orange County Board of Supervisors authorized a resolution naming Arts Orange County as its official local arts agency. The annual resolution establishes ArtsOC as the County's State-Local Partner with the California Arts Council (CAC), a state agency, enabling it to apply for a CAC grant to provide arts programs and services for our community. ArtsOC extends its thanks to Chair Lisa Bartlett and Supervisors Chaffee, Do, Steel and Wagner.
