VOLUME 3. ISSUE 45.
Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 3, Issue 45). The world’s largest and most complex procurement operation is gearing back up for the Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) after a busy and productive end to FY21 on September 30th. This week’s newsletter highlights share a common theme which is centered around the Federal Government’s modernization efforts -- specifically, the wide-spread adoption of the technology, tools, and technicians to effectively unlock the value and benefits of not only their own Big Data repositories but also those of other agencies or trusted third-party data sources. As always, good luck out there!

  • Request for Information (RFI) – Chief Data Officers (CDO) Council, General Services Administration (GSA)  The Federal Chief Data Officers Council's vision is to improve government mission achievement and increase the benefits to the Nation through improvement in the management, use, protection, dissemination, and generation of data in government decision-making and operations. The CDO Council is publishing this Request for Information (RFI) for the public to provide input on key questions to support the council's mission and focus areas, including establishing Governmentwide best practices for the use, protection, dissemination, and generation of data; promoting and encouraging data sharing agreements between agencies; and identifying and evaluating new technology solutions for improving the collection and use of data.

In other data news, on October 13th, Government Computer News (GCN) published an interesting article entitled, The gold mine hidden in government’s data dustbinIn this article, Dan Morozoff describes how back in 2011, McKinsey did a study estimating just how transformative the implementation of big data and artificial intelligence could be for the public sector in the European Union; similarly, the consultancy concluded comparable savings would be likely if the technology were applied to the U.S. public sector as well.

  • “By leveraging AI to streamline government operations, these technologies both modernize agencies and buy them time to recruit the technical talent of the future, enabling America to remain competitive on the global scale … it’s clear that adopting a hybrid strategy of modern technologies such as AI, while structurally reworking how organizations operate, will make the U.S. government more responsive and efficient and, ultimately, make us all more prosperous and secure.”
