"The greatness of God always reveals
itself in the simple things. The simple things are also the most extraordinary things,
and only the wise can see them."
Paulo Coelho (Brazilian Writer)
The Spirituality of Simplicity
In acknowledging these times of isolation during a recent sermon at Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis reflected on the simplicity of God. "... our God makes us understand that He always acts through the simple things: The simplicity of the house of Nazareth … the simplicity of everyday work … the simplicity of prayer … simple things."

The Holy Father has demonstrated and spoken of simplicity in life and spirit since his installation in 2013. “This is how the Lord acts: He does things simply," he said in 2015. "He speaks silently to you, to the heart."

It's the simple things," too says writer Theda Workman in a recent essay in the Charleston Gazette-News . Her column offers a simple message that just might ring true for you, too.

The Simple Things
These past few months have taught us many things to recognize what we've previously taken for granted, to offer gratitude to essential workers and caregivers, and to take caution and care with one another. As our worlds have grown a bit smaller during extended isolation, we've also been reminded to appreciate the simpler things in life.

The retired Sisters at Mt. Assisi Place in Pittsburgh are making the most of stay-at-home guidelines with favorite hobbies, enjoying warmer weather on the small balcony, and even nurturing a single tomato plant that has begun to bear fruit.
