U.S. to Lift Restrictions for Fully Vaccinated
International Travelers on Nov. 8
The U.S. said it will reopen its land borders to nonessential travel next month, ending a 19-month freeze. Travel across land borders from Canada and Mexico has been largely restricted to workers whose jobs are deemed essential. New rules will allow fully vaccinated foreign nationals to enter the U.S. regardless of the reason starting in early November when a similar easing of restrictions is set for air travel. By mid-January, even essential travelers seeking to enter the U.S., such as truck drivers, will need to be fully vaccinated.
The Food and Drug Administration’s vaccine advisory panel unanimously voted on Friday to recommend authorizing booster shots of Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose coronavirus vaccine at least two months after the first dose.

California Enacts Restaurant Relief Measures
martini_drink.jpg
Earlier this month Governor Newsom approved restaurant relief measures. These measures will affect outdoor dining and the ABC license processing. All measures received bipartisan support and were supported by restaurant advocacy groups.

SB 389 permits restaurants to sell consumers alcoholic beverages with their takeout orders. It has a sunset date of December 31, 2026.

SB 61 authorizes the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (“ABC”) to permit restaurants to serve alcohol in an expanded license area. The bill would also authorize the ABC to extend the period of time during which the COVID-19 permit is valid beyond 365 days if the licensee has applied for a permanent expansion of their premises. The bill would make these provisions effective until July 1, 2024. AB 61 includes an urgency clause, meaning that it goes into effect immediately.

Raising Cane's Wants To Add 10,000 Employees
Raising Cane's believes the key to solving the nationwide labor shortage begins at the top, and it means literally. Cane’s announced a unique approach to the labor shortage, leveraging the ‘Fry Cook & Cashier’ mentality that’s allowed every Crewmember in its Restaurant Support Offices to jump in and assist restaurants with staffing challenges and be an active member of the recruiting team.

At the beginning of October, 50 percent of the chain's corporate team entered restaurants across the country to assist short-staffed stores. Corporate employees supported day-to-day needs and help recruit new talent. Workers were deployed in teams to each market, and the group with the largest increase in new hires was to be rewarded.
