Governor Opens Gyms and Pools and Permits Organized Sports

Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued Executive Order 2020-176 this afternoon, allowing all gyms and pools in the state to reopen on 9/9/20 and permitting organized sports to resume, all subject to strict workplace safety protections detailed in Executive Order 2020-175.

Indoor theaters, performance venues and entertainment facilities — except for those in the Upper Peninsula and the Traverse City region — are to remain closed. Bowling alleys, roller rinks and ice rinks may only be open for organized sports put on by an institution or association that sets and enforces health and safety rules.

The workplace safety requirements of Executive Order 175, “Safeguards to Protect Michigan’s Workers from COVID-19,” replace those in Executive Order 161, but no changes were made to requirements specific to manufacturing facilities.
