Principal's Message
Greetings Ocoee Parents,

As we approach the final weeks of this very unique school year, I wanted to express my pride and appreciation for all of the students who have engaged fully with distance learning these last several weeks. We have had close to 100% of our students making a connection with the Canvas platform. Which is great!! However, we still have a large number of students who need to push hard these final weeks in order to be promoted to the next grade level.

Our current middle school promotional requirements will continue to be used for the 2019-2020 school year. In order to be promoted to the next grade level, students in grades 6 and 7 must pass three of their four core courses. Grade 8 students will need to complete all three years of their core courses to be promoted to grade 9.
We only have two weeks remaining of the traditional school year, please ensure your child is logging into Canvas and completing their academic assignments. If you have had no contact with your child’s teachers please contact them today. Teachers are available every day by email (email addresses can be found on our school website at  https://ocoeems.ocps.net/ ). You can also reach us at 407-877-5035 or at our generic school email  ocoee_ms@ocps.net  . Two administrators are on campus Monday -Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to assist with any concerns you may have.

We will be posting to Canvas a list of our end of the Year Award recipients the last week of school along with a message of congratulations from some of our finest teachers.

Also, look for information in this newsletter, Canvas and phone messages regarding how students will retrieve personal items from campus.

NBA Math Hoops National Championship & Teacher recognition
Congratulations

Hailie Eubanks!!!

She has been selected to participate in the NBA Math Hoops National Championship!

NBA Math Hoops is a comprehensive community program, featuring a basketball board game, mobile app, and curriculum, that allows students to learn fundamental math skills through the game of basketball. All program content is developed in alignment Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Learning Skills, and has been shown to improve students’ foundational math and social-emotional skills.
Each year, the Learn Fresh staff nominates educators from across the country, who have gone above and beyond for their students in our programs. To conclude Teacher Appreciation Week, join us in celebrating these All-Star Educators.

While we are only able to recognize this small group, we know every educator across the country is working diligently to support their students during these difficult times. THANK YOU for your dedication, passion and support of young learners! While we are grateful for you all year long, now more than ever, we recognize the profound impact you have on so many young lives.  #teacherappreciationweek   #allstar   #education   #teacher

We have Ms. Shaw, Mr. Spencer, Ms. Song, Ms. Amy, Mr. Phillips, and Mr. Diaz assisting us! We would love to have your child join us!

You just need to do two things:

You must be a registered member to participate in our virtual programming! If your child is already a member, just complete the permission form. If your child is a former member, email Ms. Shaw their full name & we will renew their membership! If you have any questions, just email Shaw at  ashaw@bgccf.org

Last week students were asked the following question, “What is one word that accurately describes your favorite teacher(s)?” The number of responses was overwhelming, and it’s easy to see that they miss you a lot. This Wordle was created from all the student responses (words with the most frequency became the largest words). Happy Teacher Appreciation Week; you are truly making a difference in the lives of our students!
Procedures: Student Retrieval of Personal Items
What:
This is an opportunity for parents to pick up personal items that may have been left in student gym lockers at the start of the Covid-19 Event. This will not be an opportunity to retrieve classroom items, return laptops, band/orchestra instruments or pick up yearbooks. Separate plans for those actions will be shared as they are finalized.

Where:
Car Rider Loop of the OMS campus

When:
6 th  Grade
Date: May 19 & 21, 2020
Time: 9:00 – 2:00 pm.

7 th  & 8 th  Grade
Date: May 26, 2020
Time: 9:00 – 2:00 pm.

How:
Parents will enter the car rider pick-up loop following direction of staff. We will have 4 tables with 2 volunteers at each table along the awning. The items will be placed on the tables alphabetically in bags. Labels will be stapled to the bag identifying the student name/locker number and ready for the exchange process at the specific grade level times outlined above. Parents and/or students will locate property on the tables and sign out accordingly.   Standard District protocol will be followed if contraband items are identified during these efforts. Social Distancing Guidelines and PPE use will be in effect throughout the process.

If you have any question please call the main school number at 407-877-5035 or email ocoee_ms@ocps.net
