9/3/20 District Update: from Dr. Wagner
Hello Fairview Families! I hope this finds you well and ready to begin the school year. It certainly has been a whirlwind of a summer, but our teachers and staff are back in our buildings and very excited to see their students (virtually) soon.

As we have been sharing all summer and all the way back to March, we continue to monitor the COVID-19 cases in the county and city regularly. We hope we can welcome students back to our school buildings as soon as possible, but we are also prepared to deliver instruction remotely for the first nine weeks of school.  If things continue to improve in the county, and it looks like we are going to be able to bring kids back to school sooner, we will definitely let you know as far ahead of that shift as possible.  We would likely return using our hybrid plans that were shared earlier this summer.

Just a reminder -- the first day of school for students in grades 1-12 is Tuesday, September 8. Our Kindergarten students will begin on September 14.

Here are some reminders for you as you count down the final days of summer:

  • Informational letters were mailed to all Gilles-Sweet families last week with teacher assignments. Parents/guardians can also expect an email from their child’s classroom teacher by the end of the day tomorrow with instructions on how to log on to Google Meet on the first day of school.

  • Students at Mayer Middle School and Fairview High School are invited to stop by the building tomorrow, Friday, September 4 to pick up course materials such as syllabus, books, lab instructions, etc. A detailed schedule based on grade level and last name is available here.

  • Middle and high school students can also expect information on how to log into Google Meet on Tuesday. They will follow their class schedules as if they were in the building.

  • Now is the time to locate, charge, and update your school-owned devices. If you or your child are having trouble with their device, please reach out to our support team at support@fairview.k12.oh.us prior to the first day of school.

  • Also, please check out our back-to-school checklist on the district website. From supply lists, to the school calendar and student handbooks, and the popular “Fairview First Day” printable signs, you’ll find many resources as we begin the school year.

We ask for your continued patience and support as we start school on Tuesday. You’ll see school buses driving around town delivering food for those who have signed up to receive meal delivery. Also, we are excited to welcome our 6th grade students, in small groups, to the middle school for orientation as they transition from Gilles-Sweet ES to the Mayer MS… an exciting, yet sometimes anxious transition!

We know beginning the school year this way is not ideal, but we are here to support you in any way we can. Please reach out if you need anything at all, or if you know of anyone in the community who may need help with internet, food, clothing etc. Our Family and Community Engagement Coordinator Ms. Sullivan can help. She can be reached at 440-356-3500 ext 4117 or csullivan@fairview.k12.oh.us

We are all part of the “Care Crew” as we continue to live our vision to be a community united and learn differently, care deeply, and aspire to excellence.

Thank you!
