Talking With Mrs. Tompkins
We are proud to report that students have earned their second Freedom Friday Dress Down Day, with 97 percent of parents screening and reporting results for their students. We are very thankful for this conscientious effort to continually monitor the health and well-being of our students and therefore our school community. Please refer to page 53 of the School Handbook for the Dress Down Day Dress Code Policy.

Yesterday, South Western School District (SWSD) notified us of the school district's intent not to provide transportation services to Delone Catholic if SWSD were to go to a permanent virtual learning model. This letter was sent to school families with children in the SWSD. We will keep you abreast of any developments in this situation.

I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with an update to our mask policy. We have decided that some word(s) will be acceptable on masks to include the following: Delone Catholic, Squire, a Delone Catholic sports team (i.e. DCHS tennis, Delone Catholic cheerleading) or DCHS Class of 20?? are acceptable on a mask, but no other words or phrases are permitted. If your student is wearing a mask to school with any other words on it, he or she will be asked to remove it and given a disposable mask. It is too much of a challenge to police student masks throughout the day. I truly appreciate your support with this matter.

Our Virtual Back to School Night is Thursday, Sept. 10. Mrs. Julia Fuhrman has created a wonderful virtual event for parents with the support of our teachers. Beginning today, you may use THIS LINK to view a short video from your students' teachers. I will be giving a live Welcome Message via Facebook and the school's YouTube channel at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening. Then, teachers will be available via Zoom "open house-style" to take any general course questions parents might have. Parents who have a question or concern specific to their own children should contact the teacher privately.

Monday is a school holiday as we celebrate Labor Day and I would like to leave you with this thought from Steve Jobs in honor of this holiday

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do."

I believe we do great work here at Delone Catholic and I believe this to be true because our teachers, administration and staff love what they do.

Enjoy the three-day weekend and May God Bless You,

Donna Tompkins
Interim Principal

Please complete the Back to School Forms and return them to the Main Office by  Friday, Sept. 4.

2020 Yearbooks Have Arrived
The 2020 Delonian Yearbooks have arrived. Students who ordered yearbooks received them during last period on Thursday, Sept. 3. Graduates' yearbooks are available in the Main Office. There are a limited quantity of yearbooks still available for purchase. If interested, please contact Mrs. Jess Reed at [email protected]. The cost for a yearbook is $79 (checks made payable to Delone Catholic HS).

Calling All Parent Photograpers
The Delone Catholic Yearbook, The Delonian, needs your help! After many years of service, our long-time school photographer David McFarland retired this spring. We have now hired a new photographer, but she will not be in the school, or at school events, as often as Mr. McFarland was.
We are asking parents who are at sporting events, extracurricular activities or any school-related functions to take photos, especially candid shots and send them to Delone Catholic Yearbook. ([email protected]).

All submissions are welcomed, but please know that not all submissions will be used. All photos will be reviewed by Delone Catholic staff for appropriateness and to confirm that all students in the photos have signed photo permission forms.

Photos may also be used on social media, in print publication and for other school purposes.
If you have any questions, you may contact Mrs. Lauren Gross, Director of Strategic Communications, at [email protected], or Mr. John Fournie, Publications teacher, at [email protected].

In-School Learning Clarification
If your child is attending school in person (not as a virtual student), and he/she is staying home for an illness, missing school for an appointment, or any situation where he/she will be marked absent for any part of the day, your student should contact his/her teachers and request information as to what may have been missed during class. All work for absences should follow the teacher's classroom policy and the Student Handbook/Planbook. (Please see the class syllabus available in the PlusPortals for this policy.) Students should not expect to be able to join his/her classes virtually.

We do not provide an option for any student to be virtual for individual days missed. Not every teacher currently has virtual students in their classes and therefore may not set up to meet those needs. If a student has a situation which would require an extended absence, special arrangements can be discussed on an individual basis. If the school is mandated to shut down for any reason (water-main break, inclement weather or for health reasons), parents would be alerted of the change to remote learning and further instructions will be provided at that time.

SportsLeader Virtue of the Week
One pillar of the SportsLeader program is a weekly virtue that we incorporate into our athletic practices and throughout our school community. Every week, we will share them here to encourage the students to take the virtue into their homes as well!

Our virtue this week is COOPERATION - The strength to work together toward a common objective. A team/class/group that practices the virtue of COOPERATION is a tough team to beat! They realize that all members are valuable and are selfless enough to work together to achieve the goal.
