February 5, 2021
Hello Peter Hobart families,

It was a wonderful week with all our students exactly where they they needed to be...for the moment, in this ever changing world. It was the highlight of my year to have our community back together again (in-person or distance learning). It was fun to be visiting classrooms and hear students share just how excited they were to be back together in school, literally a 5th grader raised his hand to say "Did anyone else ever think they would be so happy to be back at school?" Hands of classmates went up around the room. I have no doubt that kids, and staff, were ready to return and all are eager to be learning. Our Peter Hobart community never cease to amaze me!

We are stronger together!

News from the Peter Hobart Health Office
Free Dental Care - Tomorrow - Saturday, February 6th!

“Give Kids a Smile” is here again! Through this program, dental professionals in Minnesota provide free dental care to children once a year. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, February 6th. Check out the following website to register to get dental care. Services offered may vary by clinic.

No eligibility questions will be asked to seek care. Patients younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian to receive dental care.

If someone you are working with needs assistance or translation services, please call United Way 2-1-1 (or 800-543-7709), where Information and Referral Specialists can assist you in Hmong, Somali and Spanish Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The specialists there can place a three-way call to the dental clinic and assist you in making an appointment. (This information is also available via the above website.)
How do I decide if my child should stay home from school?

The illness exclusion document that is sent home with sick students is found here. This document reflects exclusion guideline criteria from the MDH Decision Tree.

There is also a note at the bottom of the first page of the document regarding high levels of community transmission. Although the COVID rates have dropped significantly, we still have more than 10 cases per 10,000, which is considered a high level of community transmission. Individuals with just one "less common" symptom, follow pathway #1.

Please contact our Health Office at 952-928-6606 with any questions.
Kids Place to Begin Offering Before and After School Care
St. Louis Park Public Schools has transitioned to full in-person learning for students in grades K-5. Before and after school care for students in those grades is now available.

In order to help Kids Place ensure that they are prepared for these changes and staff accordingly at each school site, the program is asking families for updated schedule information for all children who will attend Kids Place now that full in-person learning has begun.

If you need before and/or after school care, please follow this link to add a NEW registration for Kids Place school age child care 2020/2021 for your child to your Kids Place account.

Contracts for Tier I Critical Worker Child Care during distance learning will remain on file in the event that St. Louis Park Public Schools returns elementary students to the distance learning model at some point in the future.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We look forward to supporting your family’s childcare needs and serving your child.

IB - BLM @ School Week
February 1st - 5th is Black Lives Matter at School Week
Black Lives Matter at School is especially important to be recognized at
Peter Hobart because it connects with what it means to be an
International Baccalaureate (IB) school.

The 2021 focus of Black Lives Matter at School is Purpose.

Stop and think about what the word purpose means to you?

Purpose can be a verb - intentionally, or a noun - the reason.

The Black Lives Matter movement calls us to commit to live the principles listed below with PURPOSE every day, in and out of our classrooms, within our families, our community and in the world.

  • Restorative Justice is the commitment to build a beloved and loving community
  • Empathy is one’s ability to connect with others by building relationships built on mutual trust and understanding.
  • Loving Engagement is the commitment to practice justice, liberation and peace.
  • Diversity is celebrating and recognizing that we have differences and things in common. Different people do different things and have different feelings. It’s important that we have a lot of different kinds of people in our community and that everyone feels safe. Another way to say that is diversity.
  • Globalism is our ability to see how we are part of the Black global family that exists across the world.

Question to think about:
What are we going to do differently to uphold Black lives in our school?

PETER HOBART loves SLP!

Our community gives us so much; it shapes who we are and how we grow. In the spirit of Ubuntu (I am because we are), this February the PTO will share simple ways to love our community back each week!

We have a fun line up this month with virtual events that feature wonderful things about being at Peter Hobart and in St. Louis Park. We have also partnered with a local restaurant Wednesday of each week; as we support our local businesses, they support our PTO. Details will be coming Tuesday of each week so stay tuned via email and Seesaw!

Week 1: Continue to share what you love about Peter Hobart and SLP here.
We partnered with Mexico City Cafe Wednesday Feb 3rd to support our local
restaurants and they donated a portion of the proceeds. It was a great success! Thank you for participating!

Week 2: The PTO will be sending out a link to a sign-up genius school supply drive Tuesday.
