House Democrats Outline Tax Increases for Wealthy Businesses and Individuals

Senior House Democrats are coalescing around a draft proposal that could raise as much as $2.9 trillion to pay for most of President Biden’s sweeping expansion of the social safety net by increasing taxes on the wealthiest corporations and individuals.

The preliminary proposal, which circulated on and off Capitol Hill on Sunday, would raise the corporate tax rate to 26.5 percent for the richest businesses and impose an additional surtax on individuals who make more than $5 million. Read the press release.
Staggering New Record of Small Businesses Have Unfilled Positions

Once again, a worrying record has been set in 2021. According to NFIB’s monthly jobs report for August, small business owners face the highest-ever readings of unfilled job openings since polling started in 1973. A full 50% of all owners report unfilled positions, well over double the 48-year historical average of 22%. Read more here.

Mayor O’Connell Invites Community to Attend ARPA Meeting at City Hall Today

Mayor O’Connell announced the City of Taunton is hosting a Community Engagement Meeting on TODAY, September 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall to provide organizations, businesses, and residents the opportunity to offer feedback on how the City of Taunton should prioritize its American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
