New Mixed Picks
August 2020

Our clientele have spoken - mixed cases are a hit!  While our original offering is now sold out, we've curated three new cases for you:
  • A food-friendly case of six Northern Italian beauties
  • A Napa Valley case of six featuring three rich and soaring Cabernets
  • And a second compilation of our Greatest Hits, another 12-bottle case of some of our most popular wines.
Delivery turn-around will be a week or so longer than with our unmixed cases. You won't be out-of-pocket, however, as payment is only processed the business day before your delivery.

Delivery of the mixed cases is limited to the greater Toronto area, and southern and eastern Ontario.

Mixed-case prices are based on the current retail bottle prices, and includes a $20+hst handling fee to allow us to repack the wines.

Our full pricelist can be found here.

To order these mixed cases or any other case, you can simply reply to this e-mail or call me, 416 961 2294 x 29. (If the line is busy, please leave a message.)

I've enlisted two of my sommelier colleagues to help me reply to your requests and schedule your orders in a timely manner: you may hear back from Alison Lee or Elizabeth Clinton as well.

If you have family or friends who would also like wine delivered, please feel free to pass around our contact info.

Cheers,

Chris.

Lis Neris "Jurosa" is a creamy, exotic barrel-fermented Chardonnay from Fruili, Italy's north-easternmost province.  The region is known for producing some of Italy's best white wines.

Pio Cesare's Barbera d'Alba is a fruity, round and juicy red from Piedmont.  It drinks like a rich, round Pinot Noir - truly gulpable

And Giovanni Rosso's Barolo is simply an outrageous quality of Barolo.  If you love these two bottles, we also sell it in cases of six.

This case contains two bottles of each of these three wines:

Lis Neris "Jurosa" Chardonnay 2016
"This is a terrific expression of this versatile French grape. The 2016 Friuli Isonzo Chardonnay Jurosa is fairly structured but lightweight in the mouth, with brilliant energy and an open, zesty personality. Orchard fruit, ripe peach, toasted nut, lemon mousse and creamy vanilla all conspire to create the beautiful bouquet. I would suggest drinking this wine within the next few years; however, this sample has the fibre and balanced acidity to withstand some near-term aging. Some 55,000 bottles were created."

Pio Cesare Barbera d'Alba DOC 2018
"A soft, fruity red with raspberry, berry and citrus undertones. Medium body, round tannins and a fruity finish. Drink now."
91 points, JamesSuckling.com, June 2020

Giovanni Rosso Barolo DOCG Serralunga 2016
"Iris, woodland-berry and pine-forest aromas shape the nose. On the focused, vibrant palate, mint and star anise notes accent a core juicy Marasca cherry. Taut polished tannins and bright acidity provide balance and a firm lithe structure. Drink 2024-2031."

Our second mixed offer of Napa Valley Cabernets features Crossbarn, made by Paul Hobbs Wines; Faust, which is made by Huneeus Vintners, who also craft Quintessa; and Grgich Hills, a winery that needs no introduction.

All three are full bodied, powerful and complex.  2017 was a very good year for Cabernets in Napa, and 2013 was one of the best in recent memory.  Drink them now, or stash them away for the future - either way there's a lot to love about this mixed case.

This case contains two bottles of each of these three wines:
"This is a really excellent CrossBarn with beautiful currant and savoury character. Hint of menthol. Full-bodied, round and flavourful. Yet, it's not overdone. Ready to drink! Tastes like a Napa Cab for double the price. Drink now or hold."
93 points, JamesSuckling.com, Feb 2020

Faust Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
"Lovely softness and balance to this wine. Aromas and flavours of currants and blueberries. Medium-to full-bodied. Refined and beautiful now. Drink and enjoy."
92 points, JamesSuckling.com, Feb 2020

Grgich Hills Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
"This wine shows the beauty of Napa Valley Cabernet.  Not bigger, but just a more muscular style of Cabernet Sauvignon than is the norm, the 2013 Grgich Hills Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has extraordinary finesse.  It's truly an iron fist in a velvet glove.  It conveys a gorgeous minerality, almost a hint of tarriness wrapped with supple, fine tannins.  It has a Pauillac-like power for those who like comparisons with Bordeaux."

We call this case the "instant wine cellar" - six different wines, all with bright fruit, charming personalities, and ready for any occasion.  All of these wines are ready to drink right now, but the Gavi, Côtes du Rhône and Rioja have the capacity to age for up to 5 years, though we doubt you'll be able to keep your hands off them!

This case contains two bottles of each of these six wines:

"Ripe, deliciously fruity Sauvignon Blanc with melon, guava and citrus-lime, together with smattering of fresh herbs. A creamy-textured wine with good weight and a lingering finish. Textbook Marlborough Sauvignon."
94 points, Bob Campbell MW - The Real Review, Dec 2019

La Giustiniana Gavi di Gavi "Lugarara" 2019
La Giustiniana is, without a doubt, an elite Gavi expert. This is a texural wine made entirely of hand-harvested Cortese from the region's best vineyards.

"Ripe aromas of white peach, yellow apples, poached pear and daffodil show on the nose of this ever-popular bottling. The ripe flavours of roasted apple, creamy lemon and mango are layered with honey butter and a zesty line of acidity."
89 points, Wine Enthusiast, April 2020

"Altos de Rioja's impressive Crianza is entirely made with fruit from Laguardia, Elvillar and Kripan, all in the Rioja Alavesa sub-zone. Assertively wooded, with plenty of supporting liquorice, bramble and blackberry fruit, this is spicy and full-bodied with balancing acidity. 2021-25"
92 points, Tim Atkin MW, Rioja Report 2020

"A 50-50 blend of Grenache and Syrah, the 2017 Côtes du Rhône Villages "Valreas" delivers notes of briny black olives and black cherries. Full-bodied, concentrated and creamy in texture, it finishes savoury, lush and long. It's slightly more impressive than the 2016, as Syrah excelled in 2017."
92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Nov 2018

"This Cabernet shows a dark ruby colour with blackberry and raspberry aromas.  It's full of artful fruit, provides a round mouthfeel and a soft, lingering finish."
