Youth Livestock Update- May 4, 2020

Buyer Information
I'm sure many of you have been expecting to receive a list of sponsor buyers. Honestly, the process of receiving funds has been much slower than I expected. While several buyers have been very generous in their support of our youth, the response has been slow, likely caused by reduced staffing in their respective businesses. At this point, we've received just over $50k in sponsorship and every child that exhibited a market animal stands to receive a check for some amount, after submitting a record book and thank-you letters.
  • At this point, I plan to email everyone their list of buyers this Friday, May 8.
  • Record books will be required, with an initial due date of May 15. More about record books below.
  • If you have any checks, please plan to mail or bring those to the Extension Office this week.
  • If you have not submitted a buyer form, please mail or email it to me by Friday.
Livestock Program T-Shirt
T-Shirt Update
My earlier statement that t-shirts would be mailed was somewhat premature, as that process quickly proved to be impractical. If possible, I'd like as many folks as can to come by the Extension Office this Wednesday, May 6 or next Monday, May 11 to pick up your t-shirts. Please plan to arrive between 8 and noon or between 1 and 5. It's fine if neighbors, relatives or club leaders wish to pick up for one another, just let me know. The t-shirts are bundled by family and we'll check off the list as they're picked up. At this point, we can only provide the t-shirts that were ordered at the time of registering for the Show & Sale.

I realize this Wednesday or next Monday will not work for everyone. But I know a lot of folks would be able to swing by and pick them up, and this will greatly reduce the amount we have to make arrangements for after that.
Record Books
Record Books, with the exception of Steer Record Books, have been revised slightly. All of the record books and supporting materials can be found on our Extension webpage located here. Record books and thank-you letters are due May 15, and can be mailed to the Extension Office any time prior to that date.
  • Heifer Record books are optional. There is no support or truckload sale for heifers. If a participant wishes to submit a heifer record book, it will be reviewed and returned to support 4-H Project Records or FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience projects.
  • Steer exhibitors will be asked to complete the NC Performance Steer Record, also located at the link above. Steer exhibitors can call the office to schedule a visit from Dan to get an ending weight, grade and muscle score on steers, which are required for the Performance Record.
