Dr. Calvin Mackie has presented STEM workshops at Grambling and now he has received 3.1 million dollars from the Department of Defense and 1.3 million dollars from the Kellogg foundation. He has included Shreveport as one of his sites to have virtual STEM workshops. He will be working with the Boys and Girls Club which will serve as the pick-up site for the kits in the Shreveport area.
This is a great opportunity for our students and parents.
Our Title 1 Department in Caddo, are working on a virtual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineer, Arts, Math) workshop now so they can present different careers to you so you can share them with your children.
We must continue to think about our students future. We want to prepare for the STEAM careers.
Thank you for supporting STEAM.

Gentlemen of Distinction (Virtual)
Several students and parents have inquired about implementing our Gentlemen of Distinction program for this year with the pandemic. Unfortunately, due to increasingly large numbers of cases continue rising within our community, we cannot meet face to face. As the number of COVID-19 cases are rising in the community, so is the need to male mentoring with all of the recent crime. We have an amazing group of students on campus. With that being said, I do want to explore the possibility of starting our Gentlemen of Distinction virtually. Ideally, this would take place on Thursday evenings at 5:00 PM through Zoom. This year, we will only be able to accommodate grades 3 - 8. If you are interested, please complete the link below to register. The first meeting will be Thursday, February 18th. Once you register, you will receive the Zoom code. Only registered students will be admitted into the Zoom Meeting. The amount of participation will determine the frequency of the meetings.

Virtual Students and Testing
As of right now, we are testing in the Spring, beginning April 26th. Virtual students are expected to report to the campus during their time, to test. ALL social distancing and safety guidelines will be strictly enforced. Please encourage your child to practice wearing their mask while completing schoolwork throughout the day. All virtual students will be grouped together and we will make a strong effort in maintaining 6 feet distance at all times. If your child has a medical condition that will prevent him / her from reporting to the school to take the LEAP Assessment, please contact me as soon as possible and I will provide you with further directives.

Authenticate Users for Zoom
Parents, recently, your child's teacher may have contacted him/her and informed them of our additional security measurements with Zoom. We are now asking all students to authenticate their ID before logging on to Zoom. Please see video below to direct you in authentication.

Unfortunately, we are not allowing candy or cards to be exchanged this year for Valentine's Day. We have to take extra precaution to prevent the spreading of germs. Please understand this is necessary. Thank you.

Middle School Remediation Fridays
Parents, beginning on February 5, 2021, all middle school students who are failing will have opportunities every Friday to report to the campus to receive remediation in the specific areas of concern. This day will be available to virtual and traditional students. To address safety concerns, all virtual students will be placed together in static groups based on their needs. Traditional students, who come to school four days a week will be placed in static groups as well. All students will receive live instruction that day as always. Your child's teacher will contact you for more information.

As we close out the month of January, we are preparing for Black History Month. Due to COVID, we will not be able to have an actual program, but we do have an amazing alternative. This year, we are asking students to create a digital Black History Project with the theme, "What Black History means to me". The project may be a digital poster, a collage, a flyer, or something else creative, that resonates with your child. Students will receive between 15 - 20 bonus points for the Social Studies grade, depending on their grade level. Entries are due on February 19th and must be submitted in the Google folder below. Once we receive all of the entries, we will create a video to send out.
Click on the directions below for a few examples.
Click HERE to submit your project. Students will need to be logged into their Caddo Google account to access the folder.

Thursday and Friday of this week, students may wear jeans and a jersey of their choice to prepare for the Super Bowl game this weekend. If your child does not have a jersey, a sports shirt will be fine. Please make sure jeans are within dress code guidelines.
Virtual students should display their sports team as as well!!

Parent Expectations on Zoom
Parents, thank you for all of your assistance with your child on a daily basis in completing assignments. We appreciate you! In order to provide the best instruction for our students, please be mindful of your interaction with teachers during instructional time. Please schedule a time to meet virtually with your child's teacher to discuss your child specific questions and concerns. Thank you for understanding.

Parents, we have a strict ZERO tolerance Cell Phone Policy. Cell Phones are NOT allowed to be seen or used at any time while on campus. This includes, but not limited to, before class, during class, during transitions, in the restroom, or waiting to be dismissed. If your child needs to have a cell phone while at school, it should remain in his or her backpack at all times. We do not invest the time into lost or stolen phones under any circumstance. If your child's cell phone is seen, it will be confiscated for 3 consecutive school days and ONLY returned to the parent/guardian. This policy is in effect for the protection of your child. With social media drama and bullying constantly causing hardships for students, we will do what it takes to prevent it from occurring during the school day. This is a non-negotiable and will continuously be enforced as such.
Please remember not to send or bring any exposed food to the campus as a snack for your child's class. For those classes approved to receive snacks, all snacks must be individually wrapped. Cupcakes or pizza are not allowed. We understand our students love these items, but due to COVID-19 guidelines on campus, it would be best to only have individually wrapped items. Thank you for your understanding of this matter.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
We do not begin to receive students until 7:40 AM each day. Student will not be supervised if dropped off before that time. Please make sure you only drop your child off or pick your child up using carpool. Although the line is pretty long, it moves pretty fast considering we have close to 1,500 students enrolled. Parents are not allowed to drive in the back of the school. Only employees and buses are allowed in that parking lot. Do not drop your child off in the turn-around near Chase Bank or the Title 1 building on the right side of the school. Do not drop your child off at the church across the street. These locations are not safe and we do not have any supervision or traffic control in those areas.
We all have time restraints and some even have to multi-task and make multiple stops, but the safety of our children takes precedence over convenience at all times for me. Please help me to help keep you child safe!
With safety as a huge priority, please make sure your send a signed note to your child's teacher if your child will go home a different way than what is on file. We cannot take any phone calls requesting your child go home differently than what is on file. We cannot verify your identity over the phone.
To enforce social distancing on campus and to prevent large crowds from entering the front office at the end of the day, check-outs end at 2:00 PM.
If your child has been exposed to a positive case of COVID-19 or is showing symptoms, please contact the school and speaks with Dr. Webb. Also, keep your child at home to prevent further exposure. Inc some case, students will have to be quarantined for 14 days and in some cases, students will have to be fever-free without any fever-reducing medication before returning to school. Each situation is different, so please make sure you contact Dr. Webb with any questions.
If your child is exposed to a positive case on campus, you will receive a phone call from Dr. Webb. Please make sure your phone numbers are up-to-date at all times.

Due to safety concerns Crocs are NOT allowed to be worn throughout the school day. This is a strictly enforced policy.
Parents, as part of the state guidelines and district plan on reopening the school year with a strong start, students in grades 3 - 8 are required to wear face masks while on campus. For the most part, students are doing a fantastic job at keeping their masks on and pulled up over their nose and mouth. However, we do have to remind students from time to time of this priority. Wearing masks properly throughout the day is a top priority and will be treated as such. We will always have masks available for students in the event they lose or damage their mask. For the safety of your child as well as other individuals on the campus, this policy will be strictly enforced and disciplinary actions will be taken against those habitually violate this policy.
