Fall/Winter Booster Letter

Dear Viking Families,

“WELCOME BACK TO SPORTS 2021-2022” is officially a hit! As we returned back to school this Fall and welcomed student athletes, parents, family and friends back to campus and embarked on a more normalized sports year, the excitement of cheering on our Mills athletes has been on full display at all of our Viking sports events. Our school spirit is infectious!

Starting the Fall season off with over 270 student athletes on Varsity, JV and Freshman teams - students are competing & participating in cross country, golf, football, tennis, volleyball, water polo and spirit squad. The Viking teams have been busy!

As we wrap up a strong Fall season and prepare for the start of Winter sports: basketball, soccer, wrestling and spirit squad-- we prepare for another 150+ student athletes to put on a Viking uniform and hit the courts, the fields and the mats.

Mills HS Athletic Boosters is thrilled to be a part of it all; whether it is through 100% funding of our Freshman teams, (yay for Volleyball & Basketball), subsidizing additional sports personnel, funding additional equipment needs, welcoming back teams and their families for each home opening game, celebrating Seniors at Senior Night, providing Mills athletic wear to all our athletes, or handing out free pom poms and popcorn, we are here to support ALL of our athletes, teams, the athletic program and our school community.

Mills HS Athletic Boosters’ primary funding source, just like all of our five sister SMUHSD schools, is through annual Student Athlete Participation Donations. These donations are used 100% to support Mills athletics. It’s through Participation Donations that Boosters is able to bridge the District funding gaps along with supporting and promoting Viking spirit and pride. The recommended Participation Donation is $75 per athlete/per sport. This suggested donation amount has remained constant for years except for the 2020-2021 shortened and condensed sports season, when Boosters decided to forgo raising any donations due to a very unpredictable sports year. But now it’s 2021-2022 and sports are back!

Whether your student is just finishing up a Fall sport, getting ready to start a Winter program, or anticipating joining a Spring team, please consider making a Participation Donation on behalf of your student athlete. To all our Viking sports families, it’s not too late or never too early to help us create and foster a safe, competitive and fun Viking experience for our athletes and our school community. Thank you to all the families that have already generously donated.

See you on the court, the field, the track...

GO VIKINGS!

About the class

The University of California system includes several of the world’s most prestigious—and most competitive—schools. The UCs also have a unique admissions process, famously featuring a “test blind” policy on standardized entrance exams. So what better way to learn how to approach the UC admissions process than by hearing directly from an admissions director? Join UCLA’s director of undergraduate admissions, Gary Clark, for an overview of the UC admissions process and guidance on navigating it effectively. In this session, he will highlight:

  • Important steps and milestones in the UC application process
  • A breakdown of the “personal insight” application questions
  • How UC admissions have changed due to COVID-19
  • How the prohibition on SAT and ACT scores affects your application
  • Insight into the overall college admissions process from a career admissions officer
