Online Learning:
When to Go to Class
The first week of online classes are just about in our rearview mirror, a week largely devoted to live meetings with students to get us all re-acquainted in a virtual world. For this first week it was important that students attended classes as scheduled in order to participate in live meetings. Next week we move to our regular schedule and live meetings with full classes are only scheduled to take place during Advisory meetings on Wednesdays at 11am.

All regular period classes will now have recorded lessons that students can access at any time after lessons are posted at the scheduled meeting time. We encourage students to access classes as scheduled because teachers are available at those times to respond immediately to Google Classroom and email messages about the lesson. We do of course recognize that during these stressful times that student learning schedules will not always line up with our Hamilton online learning schedule. For these times, students can feel free to access lessons at any time during the week. Keep in mind, however, that if the student does not show that they have accessed the lesson by completing work, sending the teacher an email, or participating in office hours, they will be marked absent. Of course, p articipation in live Advisory and any small group Zoom meetings still require real time attendance.
$ Research Opportunity $
Want to earn $50 from the comfort of your own home? UW researchers Andy Garbacz, Katie Eklund and Steve Kilgus are developing a brief intervention for students in Grade 4 to 8 at risk for emotional concerns, such as depression and anxiety. One key aspect of the intervention is collaborating with teachers and parents. Andy, Katie, and Steve would like to receive thoughts and ideas from teachers and parents about the intervention and how they envision it working for their children and students. Each parent and teacher who participates in a 2-hour virtual focus group meeting with the researchers would receive $50 as a thank you for their time. Please see the below links if interested in participating. (MMSD approval #2019.3.5)
