LCUL proudly continues our tradition of advancing the careers of Louisiana's Credit Union professionals by awarding partial scholarships to the Southeast Regional Credit Union Management  School (SRCUS). It's not too late to submit your application before this year's deadline.  The school 
is being held on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, June 7-14.

Registration Open for NCUA CECL Webinar
NCUANCUA and other financial regulators will host a complimentary webinar Thursday, April 11, at 2 p.m. and registration is now open. The webinar will focus on the coming changes to the Current Expected Credit Losses accounting standard.

The webinar will also cover the significant differences financial institutions should expect in their accounting procedures following the CECL changes, scheduled for 2022.

The session, hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, will be presented by staff from NCUA, the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Federal Reserve, the FDIC, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Conference of State Bank Supervisors.

The webinar  will be archived  approximately three weeks following the live event. The archive will require a separate registration.

March 2019 CU Trends Report Now Available
 

CUNA Mutual Group's Credit Union Trends Report for March 2019 is now available online and can be accessed in the CU Products & Services section of our website, under the heading Performance and Data Resources.  

During January, credit unions picked up 195,000 in new memberships and loan and savings balances grew at an 8.5% and 7.1% seasonally-adjusted annualized pace, respectively. Firms hired 311,000 workers, nominal consumer spending increased 0.2% and long-term interest rates decreased 12 basis points. Real GDP increased 2.6% in the fourth quarter and 3.1% for all of 2018, above the 2.6% increase in 2017.

Campus Federal Service Team Supports LSU College of Agriculture Day of Service
Campus Federal Service Team members attended LSU College of Agriculture Day of Service at the 4H Mini Barn in support of the weeklong celebration to showcase how the college is making a difference in Louisiana and across the world. The service project, Rise Against Hunger, was chosen by LSU College of Agriculture students for their Day of Service campaign.
 
Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world's most vulnerable, mobilizing the necessary resources to end hunger by 2030. Campus Federal provided volunteers for the Day of Service campaign to help package over 10,000 meals containing a comprehensive array of micronutrients, including enriched rice, soy protein, dried vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and nutrients for families around the world.

How Pelican State CU is Combating Financial Illiteracy
Balloon bouquets, smiling faces and savory pastalaya greeted the 50 guests of Pelican State Credit Union's Home Buying Workshop at the Pineville Convention Center on February 19, 2019. 
 
The workshop consisted of a question and answer session with three panelists: Margaret Hickman of Keller Williams Realty-Cenla Partners, Mortgage Loan Originator Jennifer McMinn-Griffin and Nationally Certified Credit Counselor Rhoda Hundley. There was no shortage of questions or answers, and many guests stayed after the event ended to talk with panelists about their unique situations. Pelican even welcomed 10 event attendees as members of their financial family!
 
The credit union is championing financial wellness in the least financially literate state, one parish and person at a time. In 2018, Pelican hosted 196 Financial Wellness Workshops for over 7,500 members and non-members in 14 parishes. The credit union also provides free one-on-one credit counseling for Pelican members, publishes financial articles on its blog, Pelican State of Mind, and provides financial education for schools.

Baton Rouge Telco FCU Receives Diamond Awards 

Baton Rouge Telco Federal Credit Union (Telco) was recently honored with three Diamond Awards, which recognizes outstanding marketing and business development achievements in the credit union industry.

The awards were presented by the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council, a national network comprised of over 1,300 credit union marketing and business development professionals. Awards are given in each of 36 categories ranging from advertising to community events and beyond.

Baton Rouge Telco Federal Credit Union earned Diamond Awards in three different categories:
  • Complete Campaign: More Ways to Say Yes!
  • Digital Advertising: More Ways to Say Yes!
  • Segmented Marketing for the Student Checking Account Campaign

"By demonstrating marketing excellence and high-quality campaigns, we are able to reach more members and help them say yes to achieving their financial dreams," says Kristin Romero, vice president of marketing at Baton Rouge Telco Federal Credit Union. "These awards are a testament to Telco's commitment to the members we serve and our credit union mission."

La Cap's Ingrid Payne Elected as V.P. of Women in Management
Ingrid Payne, of La Capital Federal Credit Union, was elected Vice President of Women in Management. She has previously served as treasurer and secretary of the 25 member group. Payne has been a member of W.I.M. for eight years.
 
Payne serves as Senior Vice President of Member Relations at La Capital FCU. She is a NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer.
 
Women in Management is a politically non-partisan, voluntary, non-profit organization which brings together women of diverse accomplishments in the field of governmental management in order to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences. The group is made up of Louisiana women presently working in management positions in federal, state or local government. The group affords members valuable networking opportunities.
