Weekly Director Letter 01/29/2021
Dear Parents,

I hope you are following the photos on Facebook and in Brightwheel of the children in the garden and in the science lab. By now, all students in the school have had a chance to plant in the garden. Most of our classes are visiting several times a week to water and watch things grow. We are even having a contest and our older classes are decorating their beds. They are coming out so cute!
This week we reopened our science lab for hands-on exploration. We had it open for free exploration until now. I had the wonderful opportunity this week to teach in the lab, something I have really been missing. Our VPK classes learned about tools scientists use. They learned about a beaker, test tube, and pipette. They also used the pipette to fill test tubes to 35 ml. They explored letter sounds, counted how many letters were in each science tool, and divided the words into syllables. Using the pipette was also great for fine motor skills.
Our kids in Kindergarten did an experiment to explore density, something they have been learning about in class. They used a funnel to pour water, oil, corn syrup, and alcohol into containers and were amazed to see the liquids settling at different levels. Both our Kindergarten and First Grade classes are doing so many hands-on experiments in their own classes as well. I loved listening through my office door as our First Graders experimented with changes in the earth's surface.
I am posting videos of the lessons on our Facebook page. You can also see them on our YouTube Channel. Here is a link to the channel:

Finally, please mark your calendar for the following dates:
February 1st: The Second $170 supply fee for VPK, K, and 1st grade is due
