Organized Youth Sports
Below is a summary of requirements and best practices for youth sports leagues (including school sports teams) based in Los Angeles County (LAC) to enhance safety for participants, coaches, and communities, and lower the risk of COVID-19 transmission within their teams.

  • These requirements apply only to teams and sport activities based in LAC and not to teams or players coming to LAC for a competition from other jurisdictions.
  • Routine screening testing is required as described below, presuming adequate COVID-19 diagnostic testing capacity and supplies. The screening testing requirements may be modified, based on the availability of and access to testing.
  • In addition, these requirements remain in effect as long as the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) reports high rates of community transmission and will be re-assessed when community transmission is no longer high.

American Red Cross Donations
NEW MERCH! Come to give blood Sept. 3-7 for an exclusive 16-ounce Red Cross campfire mug, while supplies last!

It’s fantastic for cool-weather camping. Take it with you to socialize around a festive fall bonfire. And it’s perfect for your cup of coffee on a crisp autumn morning.

Over the long Labor Day weekend, we tend to see a drop in donations. Regular donors go on vacation and miss their usual appointments. They deserve their days off, but we need your help to fill their empty spots.

Will you come in to claim your mug and help meet the critical need for blood? Patients will be so grateful.

COVID-19 Precautions

You may still donate after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination. Knowing the name of the manufacturer is critical in determining your blood donation eligibility.
The Red Cross follows the highest standards of safety and infection control. For the safety of our donors and staff, the Red Cross will require all those at blood drives and blood donation centers to resume wearing face masks regardless of their vaccination status, effective Aug. 9. Valve face masks are not permitted. Face shields can be worn in addition to face masks but not as a substitute.
Public Safety
Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department recognizes the need to protect the public by looking for violations made by bicyclists, drivers and pedestrians that make roads unsafe.

These violations include drivers speeding, making illegal turns, failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, failing to stop for signs and signals or any other traffic violation by bike riders or pedestrians.

The safety of bicyclists and pedestrians remains a top priority for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. To keep you and your family safe, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department offers the following tips when out biking, driving or walking:

PEDESTRIANS
  • Only cross at marked crosswalks or intersections with a stop sign or signal.
  • Look for cars backing up. Avoid going between parked cars.
  • Make eye contact with drivers. Don’t assume they see you.
  • Wear bright clothing during the day and use a flashlight when walking at night.

DRIVERS
  • Wait for pedestrians to cross the street. Be courteous and patient.
  • Stay off the phone.
  • No speeding. Speed limits are not suggestions.
  • Look for pedestrians when backing up, turning at intersections or entering/exiting shopping centers.

BICYCLISTS
  • Always wear a helmet. Helmets are required by law for anyone under 18.
  • Bicyclists must travel in the same direction of traffic and have the same requirements as any slow moving vehicle.
Fake Vaccination Cards
California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a consumer alert today warning Californians not to print fake COVID-19 vaccination record cards at home and not to purchase them from individuals selling counterfeits.

Authentic vaccination record cards are given, at no cost, to those who have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. All Californians, aged 12 and older, are eligible for FREE COVID-19 vaccinations, regardless of immigration or health insurance status. By misrepresenting yourself as vaccinated when entering schools, mass transit, workplaces, gyms, places of worship, or other locations you put yourself and others around you at risk of contracting COVID-19.

In addition to putting community health at risk, forging vaccination records is also a crime. Federal authorities have stated that the unauthorized use of an official government agency's seal is a federal crime, and my be punishable under Section 1017 of Title 18 of the United States Code. Furthermore, forging or possessing forged documents, like a fake COVID-19 vaccination record card, is a crime in California.

To report suspicious activity involving fake COVID-19 vaccination record cards, please click the link below to file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office.
