DECEMBER 2019

It is so rewarding to see our community come together and do something big! Thanks to everyone who donated, shared and commented on Giving Tuesday, we not only met our $5,000 match, we raised more than twice the goal: nearly $12,000! It shows just how deeply the connection between pets and people is felt, understood, and appreciated.

In case you are missing that connection in your own life, December is a great time to make the acquaintance of an adoptable dog or cat. We have a variety of promotions running throughout the month in the hopes of finding each lovable creature a home of their own before the year is out. Stop by and experience the love for yourself!
Home for the Holidays
There are some things, Santa can't bring. So each December, our rescue elves try to place as many dogs and cats as possible into their forever homes before the year ends. To help them find their way, Valley Humane Society is reducing adoption fees for all adult animals by 50%. Home for the Holidays runs until Tuesday, December 31. Stop by and visit us Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. There's no time like the present to give a deserving pet a home!
Subaru Loves Pets
In partnership with Livermore Subaru and the ASPCA this holiday season, Valley Humane Society is waiving adoption fees from December 12-21 during a special "Bring Home the Love" event. Join us Sunday, December 15 on location at Livermore Subaru for pet adoptions and photos with Santa, or drop by the dealership to pick up a wishlist gift tag from the holiday tree. Additionally, Valley Humane Society will also benefit from any new Subaru purchased or leased before January 2 as part of their Share the Love event!
Making the Most of Year End Giving

The end of the year is a good time to explore planned giving options that are smart, simple, and can have a major impact for both you and the animals, but deadlines are also fast approaching! Donating appreciated stock or securities can maximize year-end giving as well as limit potential capital gains tax. Donors facing required distributions from individual retirement accounts (IRAs) can usually make a qualified charitable distribution directly to Valley Humane Society that counts toward their minimum. And if you have a donor-advised funds (DAFs), grant recommendations should be made soon to allow time for processing. Check with your tax advisor or accountant, or contact VHS Development Manager Will Anzenberger for more information about making the gift that's right for you.

When Wishes Come True
Make a pup or kitty's life a little more comfortable with a gift from their wish list! Grab a tag from our lobby Giving Tree or shop the list at Amazon Smile to meet dog, cat, or other program needs, then deliver your bundle of happiness during adoption center hours.
Feed the Need
Valley Humane Society distributes around 120,000 meals annually to feed the pets of families who are struggling to put food on their own table. Your new, opened, even recently expired pet food donations keep dogs and cats from being surrendered and at home where they belong.
Hawaiian Holiday
Mele Kalikimaka may be the thing to say this holiday season, with tickets to our 6th annual Tails at Twilight gala on sale now. The Tiki-themed event celebrates our furry ohana and will be held at Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery on March 6, 2020Makes a great gift!
