Dear friend in Christ,

"The Lord preserves the simple." (Psalm 116:6)

I think we can all agree that January 2021 has been a month that will go down in the history books. The assault on the Capitol on January 6 was both shocking and terrifying. The sisters' response was to hold two days of silence, prayer and self-denial on January 16 and January 19. It was a simple way that we could express our desire for the good of the nation and invite others to stand with us in peaceful prayer before the presidential inauguration on January 20.

The theme of simplicity was mirrored at the inauguration itself which focused on the basics and was pared down to essentials.

As we move into 2021, hoping that the pandemic will be controlled and that we can look forward to a more regular way of life, let's not forget the things we've learned in the past year, the past months, weeks and days. They have led us to the necessity of simple acts and simpler ways of doing things. Maybe we needed this reminder because doing things bigger, faster, larger isn't necessarily God's way. As the pslamist says, "The Lord preserves the simple."

With a simple prayer for your good in the future,
