Pro-Life Torah Acharei and Kedoshim

Our newsletter today features our blog posts about the Torah portions this week , Acharei and Kedoshim, spanning

Leviticus 16:1 to 20:27.

Both portions warn against child sacrifice. Acharei mentions this atrocity among the mention of forbidden sexual relations proscribed by HaShem. Deviant sexual relations and child sacrifice were commonplace practices among pagan cultures. Judaism was the first religion in human history to ban these customs.

Kedoshim challenges the nation of Israel to choose a life of holiness through righteous living, as illustrated by a list of dos and don'ts. HaShem so abhors the practice of child sacrifice that He exacts the death penalty for anyone who practices it.

Child sacrifice is once again a commonplace practice, so it is especially vital that we share the original warnings against it.
