JUNE 3RD, 2020
"Spring being a tough act to follow, God created June."

AL BERNSTEIN
June has finally arrived. We welcome it and the warm weather it ushers in. Summertime is filled with backyard barbeques, the smell of sunscreen, and late night campfires. While many of us are ready to jump in and enjoy traditional summer fun, many businesses and families are preparing for what comes next. So what does come next?

We believe that we will be entering into a season of staggered growth. As if to hear the actual click-clack of the roller coaster as it ascends up and up and up preparing for this next season. We wait with excited expressions and heightened anticipation for what's to come. We remain eager and hopeful for all the good things that will happen as we slowly and steadily move towards the future.

This week we had to announce the cancellation of the Food Truck Festival. That being said, every step forward won't be easy or to our liking. This week we also announced the kick-off to Saturdays on the Square coming June 6th. We are thrilled to have something familiar to host and bring to our downtown businesses. "CLICK-CLACK" the roller coaster continues to move up. Everyone is making similar steps forward. Taking one day, week, event at a time and determining short-term outcomes that fulfill long-term goals.

As a small community we may sometimes appear to be sheltered from what happens in larger cities. We've seen peaceful demonstrations and gatherings of individuals hoping to create change. This past week we've also watched as businesses are destroyed and left to pick up the pieces the next morning. We're reminded that everyday we make a choice to unite or divide. Let us continue to unite our community through an outpouring of kindness, patience, and respect for each person and business and the roller coaster they may be on.

Elkhorn remains a wonderful place to live, work, learn and play. We anticipate welcoming visitors to shop our businesses, play outdoors, and enjoy our festivities. After all, it's summertime! So let's get ready: roll out the grill, shake out the beach blanket, and starting enjoying this next season.

Keep smiling, keep sanitizing and stay well!
