Hi everyone
This week's LOT is a special one. We've managed to secure all of the last remaining stocks of one of the best-value red Burgundies we've come across in a long time. Domaine Faiveley is well known, producing an amazing array of top-quality red Burgundies from throughout the region, particularly in the Cote de Nuits. A couple of years ago Faiveley released a new wine, a blend from several parcels of old vines throughout the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. Indeed, the vines that produce the fruit for this wine were variously planted between 1945 and 1969, and cover more than seven hectares of the village.
The 2017 vintage was an early one, reflecting a warm season, and the wines are classically-styled and approachable in their youth. Around 25% whole bunch fruit was included, with primary fermentation completed in 19 days, followed by 14 months ageing in French oak barriques, around 25% new.
This is a fabulous expression of Burgundy, fleshy and approachable now, but with underlying depth and complexity that will see it age superbly for at least a decade. Burgundy of this quality is rarely seen below $100 any more (and in fact, is often priced much higher), hence our enthusiasm for this terrific bottling.
We hope you enjoy today's LOT, but don't delay in ordering these wines are there's only a few dozen remaining, and the importer has sold out completely! Grab them while you can!
Cheers
Stewart, Marcus and Rhiannon.
