"The Gospel According To David: Building a House That Lasts Forever"

Preacher: Senior Pastor Ben Roberts
Worship Leader: Associate Pastor Mark Stapleton
Old Testament: 2 Samuel 7:1-17
Second Reading: Ephesians 2:19-22
Holy Gospel: Matthew 16:13-19
Have you ever spent so much time building something, only to have it fall apart? A house of cards that topples at the slightest gust of wind? A building that topples during an earthquake? A life? Are there any structures that are built…and stay up forever? As we continue our series “The Gospel According To David”, King David seeks to build a “house” for the ark of the covenant…but the Lord has other “building” plans: “The Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house… And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever…” The “house” the Lord would build for David would be the very kingdom of His Son, Jesus, that not even the gates of Hades would overcome. In today’s day and age, when it feels like everything is shifting under our feet and crumbling, how comforting it is to know that we, as God’s “house”, live in a kingdom that will have no end!

SERMON SERIES
The Gospel According To David

King David is often portrayed as a spiritual giant, a great king and a caring shepherd. From writing beloved Psalms to conquering mighty enemies, David is often held up as a great example of faithful living. But when you look at the stories of David’s life, you see not an example of faithful living; you see a faithful God who gives David everything by His grace. In this 6 week series, “The Gospel According To David”, we will look at some of those stories and see that the Lord almighty was working in and through His sinful, chosen King, to make David an example of the glorious grace that He shows to all sinners. We will also see how the life of David ultimately points to God’s grace that He shows us in our true King, Jesus Christ, and His love, strength and power that He shows through His death and resurrection.

  • 8/22 & 23: Building a House That Lasts Forever (2 Samuel 7:1-17)
  • 8/29 & 30: Nathan rebukes David (2 Samuel 12:1-13)
