Dear Friends of The Blue Purl,

What inspires you?

It’s easy when the sky is gray and you’re forced to stay home because of a pandemic to focus on what brings you down. But let’s help each other, right now, in this moment, and let’s think, together, what lifts us up?

We’d like to start with a little story:
In 2017, an endurance athlete by the name of Colin O’Brady broke the world record for the Explorers Grand Slam, a grueling test of endurance in which he reached the North Pole and the South Pole, and climbed to the summits of the tallest mountain on all seven continents. He did it in 139 days, and here is his wife, Jenna, explaining why:

“This is all about the idea that really difficult challenges and dreams can be at the edges of the globe and on mountaintops around the world, but also right there in front of you …. whoever you are or wherever you’re from, audacious goals can be accomplished with grit, purpose and a growth mindset.”

Ok, so here we are, at the edge of our own mountain, trying to fight our way up. We (Patty & Wendy) were both professional women who jumped off the career path to be there for their families—and then dove back in with The Blue Purl. It all seemed to be going so well, and then the unexpected hit.

Coronavirus.

But we don’t see defeat here, we see a challenge. Our first step has been keeping in contact with you offering Thursday, Friday and (a couple)Saturday hours for curbside pickup.

Now we are pushing harder, with our  online shop . Day by day we are adding more items for you to choose from. Take a look, we think you will be surprised, and hopefully delighted.

So that is our challenge, to figure out how to keep our dream alive by finding ways to serve you.

But what is your challenge? What can we do to help you identify and summit your own mountain?

Perhaps it is one simple project, or something that seems impossible, either because it is hard, or because you just don’t feel it right now.

Let’s us help. Check out our shop and here in our newsletter where we have patterns and projects that we think will engage, challenge, and entertain you.

Let’s inspire each other. Let’s lift each other up. Let’s try, to think positive, together. And let’s be there for each other.

Stay safe. Stay healthy.

But now treat yourself with The Little Coffee Bean! A cute striped (or not) worsted cardi, quick, top-down - what's not to like?

Designer Elizabeth Smith designed her "Little Bean" 10 years ag o..." 10 years later, I’m so happy to release this adult version of the design! Why should only babies have all of the striped cardigan fun?
Coffee Bean is a simple top-down, seamless cardigan and would make a great first sweater for beginner knitters (or just a fun, relaxing knit for those more experienced)."

The Amazing Casapinka - " Breathe and Hope"
Ms. Casapinka is always looking out for the local yarn stores and we love her for it! The regular LYS Day was supposed to be last weekend - but now has been postponed to Sept. 12. We have it on the online stores and more colors are coming in this week!

" This is “ Breathe and Hope ” which is a boomerang (asymmetric triangle) shawl. It will be free this Friday-Sunday to anyone who purchases 2 full skeins of fingering weight yarn from a Local Yarn Store. The LYS will give you a code to redeem the pattern and kits are already for sale! It is for intermediate beginners, and just has slipped sts, k, p, and “made up” knotty stitches on the border (these are not bobbles - they require no turning!)"
A little help from our friends at Berroco
dropshipping
From Berroco: We are aware that many of our LYS have had to temporarily close their doors for their safety in accordance with regulations from their governors. We recognize it's a difficult time for many of our brick and mortar shops. Many shops are transitioning to curbside and e-commerce options but we wanted to help them offer something more! We are happy to introduce Berroco 123 DropShip, to ship Berroco yarns directly to your home.

Isn't that great! Here (click in) is how it works ... you find what you want and then call us and we'll place your order and they'll ship it. You can even dip into yarns we don't have in the shop like Lopi and Wool Addicts. Below is the Broderie kit they're offering with free patterns for Mothers Day!
