THE FRIDAY REVIEW

St. Rose School

November 5, 2021

"What you are is God’s gift to you, what you become is your gift to God.” – Hans Urs von Balthasar

Greetings from Mr. G

It's been another productive week n our halls.

On Monday we celebrated Mass as a school family in honor of All Saints Day. These faithful men and women are wonderful role models. Over the past month, Sister Thaddeus' 7th grade Religion class researched and presented about the lives of the Saints whom they have chosen for Confirmation names. Their costumes, props and information brought these remarkable people to life. I am impressed with every student's effort on this important project and thank Lela-Desta Liben and Damien Tokar for sharing their reports at Mass. Fifth Graders also explored the lives of Saints through a unique and well done class project. We are all saints in the making!

This morning our Buddy teams worked on a Thanksgiving service project which Mrs. B describes in her recent issue of Adventures in Student Life. Serving others and building our Buddy bonds are highlights of the St. Rose School experience. It was truly heartwarming to see our students working together on this outreach. Another memorable part of the morning was presenting our coat collection to the Knights of Columbus. Through your generosity we donated a total of 517 coats that will warm many lives this season. The Knights are incredibly grateful -- this is our biggest coat collection to date! Congratulations to the Kindergarten class for donating the greatest amount of coats, they will get a pizza party from the Knights.

The second quarter has started and parent teacher conferences are coming November 16-18th. You can sign up for your conferences here. Please do so by 6:00 p.m. on November 12th. There will be early dismissal at 11:30 a.m. on these days and After School Care will end at 4:00 p.m.

On Thursday, November 11th, the Knights will hold a Veteran's Day assembly for grades 5-8th during which they will present awards to the top 3 winners of the Veterans themed poster and essay contest among 7th and 8th graders. Given the current restrictions, grades K-4 will not attend but will have the chance to show their appreciation when the Knights and Veterans walk down the primary hallway after the ceremony. All students will receive American flags for the special day. May God bless all veterans and those who serve our country, especially those in our St. Rose School family.

Next Thursday evening is the HSA/State of the School meeting at 6:30 p.m. I hope the turnout is as strong as our first meeting; it's always wonderful to see our parents and there is important news to share. Lastly, we will be kicking off the Tuition Raffle that night. You can find details in the BLOOMS section of the newsletter. This is a significant fundraiser for our school so please help in any way you can.

Before I sign off, a big THANK YOU to the HSA for an incredible Trunk R Treat gathering last Friday night. These kind of events showcase our school spirit and build bonds that last a life time. Well done! I'm also very happy to hear the dribble of basketballs back in the gym as our boys and girls teams start practicing for the season. We are grateful to Mrs. Ortega, our Athletic Director, and all parents who have committed to coaching our student athletes. Go RAMS!

Have a wonderful weekend.

God Bless,

Mr. G

St. Rose of Lima

Patron Saint of our School

Did you know that St. Rose of Lima was born Isabel Flores de Oliva to a noble family in Lima Peru, 1586? She was an exceptionally beautiful girl who was given the nickname "Rose" which she eventually chose as her Confirmation name. St. Rose was devout from an early age, prone to hours of prayer and fasting in seclusion. Her parents wanted her to marry but St. Rose preferred to devote her life to God. She would rub hot pepper on her face and cut her hair in order to turn suitors away. While her parents did not consent to her entering the convent they did build her a private room on their grounds where she could pray in solitude.

At age 20 St. Rose entered the Third Order of St. Dominic. She spent hours in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and was a daily communicant. She was known to wear a heavy silver crown to remind her of Jesus' crown of thorns. St. Rose modeled her life after St. Catherine of Siena. She was devoted to the sick and hungry of her community. She died at the age of 31. Many miracles occurred after her death. She was canonized by Pope Clement X in 1671 and is the Patroness of Lima, Peru, gardeners, florists, those mocked for their piety and people who suffer with family problems. St. Rose of Lima's feast day is August 23rd in most of the world but it is August 30th in Lima, Peru.

St. Rose of Lima, pray for us!
