Daily Update
We have several trustees (plus Jim Johns) checking on the church building on a regular basis. They do walk throughs to be sure everything is doing okay.
Aimee (our custodian) continues to check out the building and do some deep cleaning during this time the congregation and staff are not there to mess things up in the ordinary ways.
Tammy is continuing to stay in touch with clients, mostly electronically, and is open to talk with anyone from the church who feels that "wit's end" is approaching fast. Tammy is also making a weekly children's video that we post on our website along with the Sunday worship services.
Jordan continues to hold Zoom meetings with the youth group and keep in touch with them individually. Jordan also spends hours working on the video worship services we are producing.
Alan is staying in touch with our shut-ins by phone.
Dora, while not allowed to hold regular office hours, is in and out of the church office frequently and is doing work that I ask both there and in her home.
So, the staff continues to do whatever they can to serve you. If there is something you know that any of us can do in these weird times...that we haven't thought of...please let me know.

Life Goes On
This section always seems a little longer on Mondays...so I can tell you what special days you missed on Saturdays and Sundays. So, let's begin with today...then I'll let you know what you missed...in case you want to make them up.
Today is Morse Code Day. It is the birthday of the designer of the Morse Code: Samuel F. B. Morse. Morse, along with several others, helped develop the telegraph system in the early 1800s. And by 1844, a code he developed was used to send messages regularly across the country, and by 1858, even across the ocean. I learned Morse Code in Boy Scouts, and it is a lot easier than trying to communicate through video worship services. Maybe I should send my next sermon out in code?
Today is "Tell a Story" day, which I did already this morning to my four year old grandson...over FaceTime.
It is World Tapir Day, but I think zoos are still closed. So enjoy a National Geographic Tapir show by clicking here.
It is Prime Rib Day, but the Alamo (which has a pretty good prime rib here in Mattoon) isn't serving prime rib on their carry out menu. I don't know what to advise you.
Yesterday was Hug an Australian Day, Get Organized Day (which I observed by planning to get organized later in the week), Richter Scale Day, in honor of the birthday of Charles Richter (the most powerful earthquake the Richter Scale recorded was in Chile in 1960, a 9.5 quake) and Help a Horse Day.
Saturday was Veterinary Day (hats off to our own Justin Florey), Hug a Plummer Day (after he pulls his pants up), International Macaroni Day (I will have to celebrate it later when my wife isn't around to supervise all the ingredients I like to put in my macaroni casserole), and Go Birding Day. |

Here
are some one liners my mom sent to me. (I know this is getting to her as there are words here she NEVER uses!)
MY DIARY DURING ISOLATION:
Day 1 - I Can Do This!! Got enough food and wine to last a month! Day 2 - Opening my 8th bottle of wine. I fear wine supplies might not last! Day 3 - Strawberries: Some have 210 seeds, some have 235 seeds. Who Knew?? Day 4 - 8:00pm. Removed my Day Pajamas and put on my Night Pajamas. Day 5 - Today, I tried to make Hand Sanitizer. It came out as Jello Shots!! Day 6 - I get to take the Garbage out. I'm so excited, I can't decide what to wear. Day 7 - Laughing way too much at my own jokes!! Day 8 - Playing bridge on computer. After 8 days, I am averaging 8 games/day and spend $40/day. Day 9 - I put liquor bottles in every room. Tonight, I'm getting all dressed up and going bar hopping. Day 10 - Struck up a conversation with a spider today. Seems nice. He's a Web Designer. Day 11 - Isolation is hard. I swear my fridge just said, "What the hell do you want NOW?" Day 12 - I realized why dogs get so excited about something moving outside, going for walks or car rides. I barked at a squirrel today. Day 13 - If you keep a glass of wine in each hand, you can't accidentally touch your face. Day 14 - Watched the birds fight over a worm. The Cardinals lead the Blue Jays 3-1. Day 15 - Anybody else feel like they've cooked dinner about 395 times this
month?
