Time to give generously to Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD)
|
|
My dear Siblings in Christ Jesus,
In this time when people have been devastated by hurricanes, fires and earthquakes, we are called upon to give generously to Episcopal Relief & Development. Episcopal Relief & Development is the compassionate response of The Episcopal Church to human suffering in the world. Hearing God’s call to seek and serve Christ in all persons and to respect the dignity of every human being, Episcopal Relief & Development serves to bring together the generosity of Episcopalians and others with the needs of the world.
Episcopal Relief & Development faithfully administers the funds that it receives from the church and raises from other sources. It provides relief in times of disaster and promotes sustainable development by identifying and addressing the root causes of suffering.
For over 80 years, Episcopal Relief & Development has been working together with supporters and partners for lasting change around the world. Each year the organization facilitates healthier, more fulfilling lives for more than 3 million people struggling with hunger, poverty, disaster and disease. Inspired by Jesus’ words in Matthew 25, Episcopal Relief & Development leverages the expertise and resources of Anglican and other partners to deliver measurable and sustainable change in three signature program areas: Women, Children and Climate.
I call on all Episcopalians in Hawaiʻi and Micronesia to donate to Episcopal Relief & Development today. I further hope our churches will share this information at all services, in newsletters/e-news, and on websites with renewed vigor throughout September and the rest of 2021.
Please be generous!

Convention 53: Important Deadlines
Consider Stepping Up
|
|
Online Resolutions & Nominations Due Soon!
|
Two important deadlines for Convention 53 are coming up:
RESOLUTION DEADLINE - Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 4:00 PM, is the deadline to submit online resolutions to be included in the workbook for the upcoming Annual Meeting in October.
NOMINATION DEADLINE - Friday, October 8, 2021, at 4:00 PM, is the deadline to submit online nominations to be included in the workbook. We urge clergy and church members in the Diocese to seriously consider a nomination for one of several positions:
-
Diocesan Council: Exercises the power of the Convention and performs planning and policy-making between meetings of Convention. Oversees the policies, programs, mission, and budget of the Diocese and may initiate new work. Also is the legal corporate body of the Episcopal Church in Hawai‘i and, as such, is responsible for the business and property of the Church. This is the Board of Directors of the Diocese.
-
Standing Committee: Serves as the Bishop’s Council of Advice. Performs duties as specified by the General and Diocesan Convention, and the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Hawai‘i. Serves as the Ecclesiastical authority when there is no Bishop.
-
Cathedral Chapter: Serves as the oversight body for The Cathedral of St. Andrew (both as a congregation and as the seat of the Bishop).
-
Secretary of the Convention: Records minutes, enters them in the Journal, and, under the supervision of the Bishop, attends to the publication and distribution of the Journal, and performs other duties as prescribed in the Diocesan Constitution and Canons. Chairs the Committee on Convention Plans for planning the agenda and making physical arrangements for the Convention. Maintains various directories of Diocesan officers, commissions, departments, etc.
Although nominations and resolutions can be made "from the floor" during the meeting, delegates may not have an opportunity to review the background of the nominee, or give resolutions thoughtful consideration.
More information can be found on the Convention webpage HERE. Scroll down to complete or download the required forms.
