2020-2021 Season

That’s right, folks—the wait is over! We are thrilled to announce our 2020-2021 season featuring four plays that tell the unique stories of Montana. The plays seek to build awareness surrounding issues that reach across the entire state—from children struggling with depression and anxiety to veterans reintegrating into family and community—and to tap into the remarkable history and authenticity Montanans appreciate—from the history of the National Forest Service to a celebration of the state’s 300+ bingo halls.

Zombie Thoughts
August 28 - September 7
Written by Jennifer Kokai and 11-year-old Oliver Kokai-Means, and directed by Rosie Ayers of United Way's Project Tomorrow,
Zombie Thoughts
kicks off this year's season. Part of this year’s Educational OutReach Tour, the play is inspired by Oliver’s experience living with General Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Constructed like a video game, the play is interactive, inviting students to make choices throughout the play to help the characters progress through the game-within-the-play. The production will perform in over 50 schools, libraries and community centers across Montana with the goal of removing stigma surrounding mental illness and promoting healthy coping skills for children.

The Fog
September 15 - 20
Written by Jean Ann Douglass,
The Fog
tells the story of a man fresh from university, clutching proposals and plans, and tending to his newly assigned patch of forest. Inspired by gothic drama, city planning, the creation of the U.S. Forest Service, and Gifford Pinchot's secret marriage to a ghost, this world premiere short play will take place in and around the fire tower at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula and is part of the Rep's Plays on Tap series.

BINGO
invites folks to grab a drink and head to the back bingo room at the VFW in Missoula for a night of live gaming and live theatre. Five amazing playwrights bring you five world-premiere short plays, all while the balls drop and the numbers are called.

ReEntry
offers an unflinching look into the lives of Marines getting ready for and returning from combat. Honest, moving, and surprisingly funny, this docudrama is based on real interviews with US service members and their families. Following a two-week run in Missoula,

At the Rep, we believe Black Lives Matter and that the lives of all BIPOC in Montana are vital. We recognize those who are fighting for justice, and we stand in solidarity with every BIPOC artist who has or will work with us.
As such, we will continue to prioritize the commissioning and support of BIPOC playwrights and artists, and ensure that BIPOC are represented on our stages.
We are also, in partnership with the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center in Big Sky,
announcing the commissioning of an Indigenous artist
with ties to Montana. This commission comes with funds and support—in the form of a $10,000 award, a writer’s retreat in Big Sky, development with the
Bitterroot Lab
, and a guaranteed production in the Rep’s 2021-2022 season that will play in Missoula and then tour the state.
