Innovators@Carondelet presents Sonya Childress, Online Speaker
Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7:00 PM
Art is a powerful tool to change hearts and minds, and there are few art forms as powerful as film. Veteran cultural strategist, Sonya Childress, will reflect on her twenty-year career as a social impact producer and share lessons about the catalytic power of documentary film to spark change in beliefs, actions, relationships, and institutions.
Sonya's presentation will be followed by moderated Q&A.

COVID & Hybrid Update
It was wonderful having students back on campus this week and the addition of the G4 students (M, T, TH, F) created more vibrant classroom interactions and a ton of energy on campus.
We had no reported positive test cases this week, and the results of our Jan.13th testing were zero positive COVID tests out of the 321 people who were tested.
As we move into more inclement weather, we have identified specific areas where we will have students gather at break and lunch to ensure that masking and distancing are in place for everyone’s protection.
We have all done a great job in creating a community of cooperation in following protocols and in being responsible and considerate of others. Students have stayed home when they have concerns about close contacts with positive cases and when they are symptomatic. It would be a great help if families could keep us informed about this information. If your daughter is staying home because of a possible close contact with a positive COVID test case, a potential positive case, are symptomatic, or are a close contact with someone who is symptomatic, please contact Ms. Malisa in the Attendance Office. We will add this information to our database that is shared with county health. We use that data to create the safest environment possible for your students, and this information will help us to stay open over an extended period of time.
We made the decision to begin the semester in distance learning so that we could crunch numbers to determine whether we could offer a G4 option, and our ability to do so has been a great gift to many families. Dr. Chaponot has done yeoman’s duty in creating these academic cohorts. I do want to remind everyone though, that we can only do this based on demand and a maximum number of students allowed in classrooms. With 30-35 classes over seven periods, the logistics are pronounced as we cannot have more than 16 students in any class per distancing restrictions.
We know that as we move forward into spring we will have more students who will want to be on campus, which is great, but that will also mean that the ability to have students on campus for four days might dissipate. We would have loved to offer the G4 to our freshman, but so many wanted this option that we could not accommodate the demand with the constraints of on campus class sizes. We are developing a webpage to provide clarity on timelines and ease of access for families to request a status change between cohorts.
We have now been on campus for eight weeks total with zero on-campus spread. That is a testament to the diligence and cooperation of everyone. Thank you to the students, faculty, staff, and families for your perseverance, faith, and courage this school year.

To accommodate the PSAT for juniors, Flex Day is on Tuesday this week. Classes will meet on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Ven a Ver Salinas - Applications available!
Do you have a student who’s interested in social justice? This year, instead of traveling to the Central Valley, Ven a Ver Salinas will be a virtual immersion experience! We will have three sessions during the exploratory period (from 2:00 - 4:00 PM) on Flex Days starting on February 24th. We will learn about issues that farmworkers face locally and globally. We will explore themes such as climate disasters, migration, and youth farmworkers.

Senior Parents
Our Senior Retreat, Journey, is a huge success! There’s still time to register for JOURNEY, but not much longer. If your student has not yet registered, please assist her in signing up ASAP, as registration will close on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 11:59 PM. Because of COVID protocols, we need to plan these retreats with precise and stable registration numbers, which makes last-minute registration and/or cancelation within one month of the retreat date problematic. We appreciate your support in making this retreat happen for our seniors!

On January 13th, we recognized the students who have achieved excellence in music, academic scholarship, character, leadership, and service. CSF Spring Membership open now |
It's that time again! If you daughter is interested in joining the CSF Honor Society, please have her check her Schoology announcements for membership drive information beginning Monday. For more information about CSF, please check out our club page.
The membership drive ends on Friday, February 5 at 3 PM. No applications will be accepted after this time per CSF bylaws. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Silveira

Yearbook/ID Photos
If your student missed or was unable to take part in the December or January Picture Days they still have a chance to submit an image for the yearbook. Someone at home can take a photo in a well lit location against a plain background. Student should be wearing a Carondelet polo or spirit wear top. Deadline to submit images: Monday, February 1, 2021.

Season Updates
Our athletics staff has been working closely with EBAL schools in preparation for guidelines from CIF and NCS to start seasons of sport. EBAL has been cleared to create seasons of sport based upon tier guidelines provided by county health departments. Below are updates that have been issued by our league and section.
We are planning to begin some of our Purple Tier Sports Season on 2/1 (Swim, Dive and Cross Country), 2/8 (Tennis and Golf) and 3/22 (Track and Field). Any updates on tryouts and the start of the season will be sent out to you from your coach, will be posted on schoology, and the website.
Sports Registration
Make sure that all of your student-athletes are registered on Home Campus. If an athlete does not have a valid physical on file or is not cleared, they will not be permitted to participate under any circumstances. If you are interested in trying out for Swim, Dive, and Cross Country the deadline to register is 1/28. For Tennis and Golf, the registration deadline is 02/04. For Track and Field, the registration deadline is 03/18. If you have any questions about registration please reach out to Jessica Rollins.
Transportation to the CAC
Due to low ridership for the afternoon CAC shuttle, we have had to place the shuttle to the CAC on hold for now. We will let you know when it is available again. If you or your student-athletes have any questions about this, please reach out directly to Diane Milano (dmilano@carondeleths.org).
NCS Bylaw about participating in Club and HS sports
Per CIFs' notice issued on January 20, Cohorting athletes and coaches must cohort by team, and cannot participate with more than one cohort over the same season or time period. Therefore, effective immediately CIF is reimplementing bylaws 600-605 which states that, "A student on a high school team becomes ineligible if the student competes in a contest on an “outside” team, in the same sport, during the student’s high school season of sport." This encompasses all CIF-sponsored sports.

The College Board has announced that they will be eliminating the SAT Subject Tests and the optional essay portion of the SAT. The College Board blog post has the official information.

The Western Association for College Admission Counseling will be partnering with StriveScan to host multiple virtual college fairs in March and April. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with colleges! The fair is open to any student interested in learning more about colleges.

Seniors: Attend the virtual Black College Expo, February 19 and 20. Students can get accepted on the spot, college application fees waived, and receive scholarships.

Join Sustainable Leaders in Action for their second Climate Careers Chat on Thursday, January 28th at 5:30 PM. This youth-produced live interactive panel will feature two professionals in sustainability and conservation who will share their education and career pathways. Register today.

College Board is hosting their first-ever series of virtual college fairs called BigFuture Days in February and March. This is a great way to learn more about an array of different colleges.

Strap on your bibs and start your engines…
Carondelet’s Parent Association is pleased to announce our first Drive Thru Crab Feed Saturday, March 6, 2021.
We are partnering with Fuget About It! Catering to provide this delicious dining opportunity and to maintain a fun annual tradition despite extraordinary circumstances. Meal pick up will occur at Carondelet High School. All food will be prepared, packaged, and delivered to your car in strict compliance with all COVID-19 safety measures and guidelines. Bring your feast home for the family to enjoy!
Our menu includes succulent crab, famous tri-tip, penne with marinara sauce, Caesar salad, and a dinner roll. There will also be an option for tri tip only. Orders will be for 2-20 people and we need a minimum of 100 orders to host the event. There will be no drive up/day of orders taken.
Proceeds from this annual fundraiser will assist in funding activities for the graduating class of 2021.

Morning Shuttle Update
The morning shuttle has been suspended until the school opens more widely and ridership increases. However we are still taking reservations on a first come first serve basis. Cost is $500/semester or $125/month. Once the service resumes you will be contacted with a confirmation. If you have already signed up, no need to take action, you are confirmed. Due to Covid-19 regulations only 14 riders are permitted on the bus at one time. Also note that the after school shuttle to the CAC has also been suspended as well. Lunch service on hold during Hybrid
Epicurean has informed us that lunch service demand has not been sustainable enough for their business during hybrid. They did inform us that they will return when we are able to be 100% back on campus. All students should plan to bring their own lunch and snacks to campus starting next week.

2021-22 Tuition Assistance Applications
Applications are now open in FACTS for families requesting tuition assistance at Carondelet for the 2021-22 school year. The deadline to apply is Monday, February 15.
All families must apply each year aid is requested. Access the FACTS website, or you can also find the application on our Tuition Assistance page along with information on the process. Our funds are finite and we try to help as many families as possible. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered and may miss out on available funds so start the process now.

Carondelet is looking to furnish a conference room with matching black or white mobile tables, up to 20, and matching stackable or rolling chairs with approximate measurements of 2' 4.5" H, 5' W, 2' D. We want to be able to move the tables for small to large meeting formats while easily storing those not needed. With the recent evolution of office space usage due to the pandemic, we thought there may be a community member looking to donate such items for a tax-deductible donation. Attendance Reminders
If a student will miss class, for any reason, a parent/guardian must notify Ms. Malisa in the Attendance Office as soon as possible. Additionally, if a hybrid student will be absent from school, but intends on participating online, a parent/guardian must also notify Ms. Malisa. Missing class and/or being physically absent from school without parent/guardian notification may result in an unexcused absence. After any medical appointment, please email a photo of the school excuse note or appointment verification notice.
Email is the preferred method of communication with Ms. Malisa (mmeemari@carondeleths.org). She can also be reached via the Attendance Hotline at (925) 686-5353 ext. 359. In addition to notifying Ms. Malisa, students are always expected to directly connect with their teachers.
