GAC Update: 1031 Extensions and Efforts to Seek Clarification
|
On April 9, the IRS issued Notice 2020-23, extending a variety of deadlines, including Section 1031 deadlines. The Notice extends any 45-day or 180-day deadline that occurs between April 1 and July 15, to July 15, 2020.

As most of us are now into our second month of working from home, we are sharing some tips to help you reduce stress as you navigate these challenges.

Tips to Prevent Email Compromise
|
The Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a
public service announcement
on April 6, 2020 about the uptick in Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams and provided recommendations to help protect the security of your network. Bad actors are taking advantage of the challenges faced by businesses as they transition their employees to remote work. FEA members are encouraged to be vigilant and review their internal controls with their employees to avoid breaches and wire fraud.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the CES® Council believes that all non-emergency travel should be curtailed for the foreseeable future. Therefore, the May 1, 2020 exam date has been postponed without a new date. The next regularly scheduled exam date is September 23, 2020 at the Chicago FEAAnnual Conference. We do not know how long the current crisis will last. If we are able to, the CES® Council may add an additional exam date possibly this summer. The CES® Council will send out information should any further changes to exam dates occur.

In an ongoing response to COVID-19, the AML/FEA staff team continue taking the appropriate steps to keep our clients, employees, members and communities safe.

The FEA 1031PAC contributes to Members of Congress of both political parties. The FEA 1031PAC is funded by eligible individual employees. To become eligible, individuals must be employed by FEA member companies that have filed a Permission to Solicit form. A Permission to Solicit form is required by the Federal Election Commission before FEA can solicit eligible employees of member companies.
