The Landings Art Association invites you to join Artists of the Month Donna Bouchillon and Gail Quinn at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5 for a reception in The Plantation Club Gallery. Come support these fine artists and help them celebrate the opening of their new show.
Following a life-long love of drawing and painting, Donna Bouchillon picked up her camera and brushes in earnest after retiring from 32 years with the U.S. District Court., Chambers of the Honorable B. Avant Edenfield. Studying under wonderful instructors, especially Rebecca Willis, Al Stine and Charles Reid, has been a dream come true.
Growing up in the low country, Donna has always been inspired by her surroundings, finding a wealth of subjects to explore. An area steeped with Southern traditions and a unique natural beauty, searching its back roads, refuges, swamps and marshes has delighted and moved her to put onto paper those things we are quickly losing sight of.
Donna has spent the past two years traveling with her husband while he has been on the NSCA U.S. Shooting Teams for Sporting Clays and FITASC. While he taught clinics around the United States and took part in competitions in the U.S., England and France, she worked on her photography and drawing skills and painted whenever possible. Some of her recent paintings represent shooters and their dogs, working together as a close-knit team. Known chiefly for her low country commissions for marsh birds and textured scenes of the South, her camera and brush have begun to study the family traditions of outdoor hunting and fishing in our woodlands and marshes as a precious part of life here, one that must be preserved for future generations.
Donna paints what she sees, things that stir in nature, traditions that vary wherever you travel, and the old, fading things that pull at your heartstrings. Watercolor, oil, pen and ink, and pencil are her main tools. This show will be a sampling of her photographs for the first time, and various styles, mediums and new techniques tried over time.

Originally from the New York City area, showcase artist Gail Quinn and her husband Jim transferred to many major cities throughout the country before retiring first to Kiawah Island and then Savannah. Having had a strong interest in drawing at an early age, Gail managed to find time to study art while building a nursing career and raising two sons, taking art classes in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Boston.
When she first moved to the Landings in 2002 she volunteered at the Wesley Community Center introducing the children to art and painting a large mural in their outdoor area.
She has given private art lessons to students applying to the Savannah Arts Academy helping them complete their portfolios. Gail spends her summers in the state of Washington where her sons live with their families. She has been judged in to the Southwest Washington Watercolor Society, an organization in which she continues to be active. One of her paintings was featured on the cover of the Vancouver
Washington phone directory, and many of her paintings can be found in homes throughout the Landings and across the U.S. Her main focus has been large acrylic and oil paintings of the marsh. But recently she has started to design jewelry as well as encaustic art and oyster shell sculptures. Whatever medium she is using she always considers color and design as the most important elements of her creations.
Gail will be displaying her jewelry creations and her small acrylic and encaustic paintings, as well as her oyster shell sculptures. Ever inspired by beaches, marshes and imaginative color schemes, and lately by encaustics, Gail adapts new and old ideas and techniques. Her beautiful encaustic pieces were created by melting beeswax, adding colored pigments and layering it onto wood panels using brushes, palette knives, paint sticks and even pizza cutters.
