Meet Samantha Miller, our New Legislative Updates Coordinator
 
Samantha Miller is CSTP's new Legislative Updates Coordinator. She will be writing our weekly email updates during legislative session.

A little bit about Samantha. She has degrees in both Political Science and History, as well as a Master in Teaching. Samantha has a worked in Elementary Education for 6 years, most recently as a 3rd Grade general education teacher. The majority of her time is spent chasing around her two small children who keep her very busy. Samantha enjoys running, working in her yard, listening to political podcasts, and spending time with her family.

Equity In Your Framework TrainingsEIYF
 
On November 15, 2019, CSTP hosted the first set of Equity In Your Framework trainings to groups of CEL 5D+, Danielson and Marzano educators. Each framework group was facilitated by Instructional Framework and Equity Specialists.
  • CEL 5D+: Whitney Meissner (LaConner), Denise Daniels (Auburn) and Gunnar Guttormsen (Kelso)
  • Danielson: Anzara Miller and Tanisha Felder (Shoreline)
  • Marzano: Sonia Barry (Central Kitsap) and Mark Gardner (Camas)
The training, which combines elements from Stage 1 and Stage 2 TPEP trainings with an emphasis on equity and was developed by the facilitators over the last year, is designed for administrators who received Stage 1 or Stage 2 TPEP trainings prior to the summer of 2018.
 
If you missed the November date, have no fear! Equity In Your Framework will be happening again on Friday, March 6, 2020, on the east side of the state (location yet to be determined). The cost is free along with lunch and materials. Sign-up to be on the notification list to be the first to receive information and register.
Monthly Update: Inclusionary Practices Project

The OSPI Inclusionary Practices Project is moving full steam ahead. Some new developments in the last month have occurred.
  • Demonstration Sites Application: An application is open for schools and districts to apply to be a Demonstration Site, highlighting inclusive practices they've implemented and will share with other educators around the state. Selected schools and districts will receive professional learning and support through the University of Washington's Haring Center. Round 1 of the application closes on December 20 and you can find more information on their website.   
     
  • Statewide Professional Development Providers: Six organizations will provide statewide professional development for inclusionary practices this year and next year. Their professional development will target educators throughout the system from central offices to classrooms, and utilize teams and individual educator approaches. You can find out more about their work here (click on the "Professional Development Providers" tab):

    • Association of Educational Service Districts (AESD)
    • Association for Washington School Principals (AWSP)
    • Center for Change in Transition Services (CCTS)
    • The SWIFT Education Center (School-Wide Integrated Framework for Transformation)

    • Washington Education Association (WEA)

Effective collaboration starts with developing relationships and structures to support adult learning and growth. Participants will reflect on current collaborative practices and explore how to build momentum to sustain a safe, risk-taking, and learning focused culture, focused on student learning. Building on CSTP's Teacher Leadership Framework, participants will delve into this work from an authentic place for their team and needs. This session will be designed to continue learning and planning around work educators did during previous CSTP sessions on teacher lea dership and small tests of change.

Score release for 2018-19 National Board candidates is Saturday, December 7th! 

The National Board has some useful resources on the  Score Release page for those waiting on their scores:
Pro-tip: Make sure you know your username and password the weekday prior to score release. The NBCT customer service is closed on the weekends and unable to reset passwords until the next business day.
CSTP Presents at the OSPI/WERA Pre-Conference

League of Education Voters Podcast with 2020 Washington State Teacher of the Year Podcast
 
2020 Teacher of the Year In the League of Education Voter's latest podcast, 2020 Washington State Teacher of the Year Amy Campbell, is interviewed. Amy is a special education teacher at Helen Baller Elementary School in the Camas School District. She explains why inclusion is so important. She also talks about handling transitions for students needing special education services and how she would change Washington's education system.
Offer Clock Hours at Your Next Training with CSTP

CSTP is a proud Washington State approved clock hour provider. If you are hosting a training or book studies for educators, you can apply to provide clock hours at your next training through CSTP.

To apply for clock hours for your upcoming training, fill out the Clock Hour Course Application. Please submit your application at least two weeks prior to your training. 

Our clock hours are on a sliding fee scale. 1-5 hours are $10, 6-10 hours are $15, 11-20 hours are $25, 21-30 hours are $35, 31-40 hours are $45, 41-50 hours are $55 and 51 or more are $60.  Candidates that attend your training will be able to claim their clock hours and pay online.
