TransportationYOU participates in e-Girls Event at BSU

Sarah Ringling and Karissa Hardy, TransportationYOU Committee and WTS SW Idaho Members, recently participated in the e-Girls event on June 7 and 8 targeted at high school female students. This event demonstrates the importance of women in engineering and technical careers. The students participated in a workshop on building and strength-testing foam bridges. The bridge needed to support weight and a raw egg was placed under the bridge. The goal was for the bridge to be strong enough it would not collapse when weighted and crush the egg.  One team figured out a loop-hole the workshop leaders had not anticipated and used deflection in their favor to create another support and save the egg!

Adopt-A-Highway Litter Event June 22nd 2019

We had a light turnout for our 2 nd  Litter Pick-up of 2019, with five WTS members. Luckily, we had two additional crew members, the daughters of Liisa Itkonen and Donn Carnahan, came along to help out.  The crew of seven were able to clean up our section of Orchard Street from Victory Road to Dorman in record time! We collected 8 bags of trash, on what would be considered a "light" litter day, compared to our normal pick-ups in the past, and were done in less than an hour and a half.

Pictured in the above photo, from left to right, are Mackenzie Carnahan (Donn's daughter), Regina Cunningham - ACHD, Meagan Duneman - Terracon, Liisa Itkonen - COMPASS, Donn Carnahan - Keller and Associates, and Maire Dickens (Liisa's daughter). Taking the picture was Dave Butzier - AECOM.

Our next pick-up will be in August, date to be determined. Hopefully we will get a little better participation.
