Bringing People & Opportunities Together
Summer at City Hall
Summer is here, and many high school students are wondering where to find a summer job. Last summer 48 school students secured paid internships through the three Summer at City Hall programs in the region. Summer at City Hall combines civics education with learning about local government. Mary Anne Rooney, project director, Ventura County Civic Alliance and business intermediary for the Oxnard Union High School District and Tracy Perez, regional manager, United Staffing Associates, and chair of the WDB joined KVTA host Tom Spence to talk about opportunities through the WDB Award-winning program Summer at City Hall.

Project HOPE
The increasing demand for healthcare workers creates an exciting career path opportunity for youth. Luckily there is an award-winning program in Ventura County called the Health Occupations Pipeline Education or HOPE, that provides healthcare pathways to a diverse student population. WDB Award recipient Dr. Cheryl Lambing , MD, FAAFP, medical director, professional and community education and outreach, Ventura County Healthcare Agency, and medical director HOPE, joined KVTA host Tom Spence to talk about the HOPE program.

The WDB recently elected Tracy Perez as chair and Peter Zierhut as vice-chair. Both will serve one-year terms. Perez is regional manager of United Staffing Associates, and Zierhut is vice president of Haas Automation, Inc., both in Oxnard. Previously vice-chair, Perez takes the gavel from past chair Gregory Liu, owner/CEO, Jaxx Manufacturing. Welcome to a new year of workforce challenges and opportunities!
