Good Eats for a Good Cause Wednesday, July 24

The Friends of the Library is a community organization supporting and promoting the Library. The Friends sponsors activities to raise funds for the purchase of library materials and equipment, and underwrites programming to benefit all library users.
Compost 101 Class Saturday, Aug. 3
Learn from certified master composters during this free introductory course on composting from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 3, at Garland Environmental Waste Services, 1434 Commerce St.

Find out how you can amend soil for the planting and growing season, return valuable fertilizer to the earth and keep organic waste out of our landfill.

Art Explorers: Optical Illusions
Children ages 6 through 12 can make spherical optical illusions at next month's Art Explorers event2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Walnut Creek Branch Library, 3319 Edgewood Drive.

Children attending Art Explorers learn about different types of art, then develop their STEAM art skills by creating their own masterpieces.

Garland Creates Community Upcycling Sculpture Garden
Many Garland residents and City employees Made Their Mark on the city's first Community Upcycling Sculpture Garden Friday, July 12.

Participants added the accent color to painted recycled bottles, and local artists used those bottles to create the sculpture at 506 Art. Meanwhile, across Main Street, Havana NRG! performed on the Downtown Square, wrapping up the 2019 Sounds of Summer Concert Series.

Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant Deadline
July 23
The Letter of Intent deadline for the Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant program is Tuesday, July 23. Neighborhood groups who are registered with the Office of Neighborhood Vitality may apply for up to $100,000 in matching funds for neighborhood enhancement projects on public property. Latest Water Quality Report Available Online
Garland's newest Drinking Water Report is now available online. In the report you will find the results of year-long water testing throughout the city. Garland continues to earn top ratings from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
