Cozumel Drift - Special Edition
Hola Amigo !

YEAH ! We made it through another week. The curfew here at 5 pm has been brutal. That is quite early to have to be at home, not allowed to drive.... almost sounds like I am 16 again and grounded! Oh, you already heard that joke.... sorry. But it is funny!
Covid Update
Last week, many meetings were held about the progress that Cozumel is making. As of today, we have 13 days straight of no new cases of Covid-19 here in Cozumel. That is totally awesome news. So, the mayor has rewarded our suffering and moved back the curfew to 7 pm. YEAH ! And they are working on the reopening of everything. This coming weekend, we should have a report of what is to be expected. The target date as stated, will be the end of May, beginning of June.
Now, some people were disheartened with an idea that was presented in one of those meetings, and was later published on Facebook. In regards to the idea that everyone is suggested to wear facemasks. Really, it is just an idea. This week, one of the suggesitons for restaurants opening was that waiters will have to wear masks. But nothing was mentioned about the customers. So, stay tuned to next week's newsletter and let's see what the actually come up with. There is a lot of talking going on but no concrete decisions yet.
Cozumel reefs status - Many of you have been wondering how the refs are holding up.. well us too! We have not been able to dive - no one is. Not even the Marine Park empoloyees. I am sorry to say that there has been a lot of clandestine fishing going on and the naval guys are repeatedly removing them out of the park. No word on the lionfish population either, but it was OK when Palancar was closed. There will be a reef closre in Aug and Sep - Palancar Caves, Bricks and Colombia. The corals spawn during that time of the year and they do not want stress the corals during this time.
What's been happening at Scuba Shack and Village Tan ?
Clean up here has been going well. Everything is newly painted and spruced up. The plants and grounds of the hotel are looking totally awesome! The only thing missing is customers and diving ! That will be coming very soon. We are hopeful that within the next week, the boat swill be able to go out again. And when they announce that, you will be the first to know!

How many cats do you see in this picture? Yeah, that Siamese cat is still around, and has worn down Milky, Charlie and Simba. And they all seem to be getting along now.

And even Scuba is now crossing the street on a daily basis. There are too many for me to pet them all. Anyone ready to help?
Look closer next time you're in Cozumel
Although there is still uncertainty about when things will return to normal in Cozumel, we hope that on your next trip you take a little time to look closer at the creatures of Cozumel, both above water and below water. You may find you're missing a lot you didn't know was there. For this newsletter we've put together three different articles on this theme.
When you're on the reef, take time to look for and be aware of the smaller creatures. If you do, you might just see this little guy?

Camouflage is an amazing defense for many creatures of the reef. If you take a closer look a lot of times you will see something you missed the first time. Take a closure look at this article to see this fish that you may have missed.
The wonders of Cozumel are not just on the reef. Cozumel is home to at least 9 indigenous animals. Check out this article to read about each. You may be surprised about what you learn.
