Summer Church Office Hours
Monday - Thursday
11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Notes from Pastor AJ

Dear Beluvs ...

It’s hard to believe but we are already beginning to wrap the summer but nevertheless here we are. We are looking forward to the Fall season with great excitement. The CoreTeam and LifeSpan teams have a number of things planned already and are inspired with the opportunities we have before to deepen our growth in depth as Unitarian Universalists. As we engage our new themed based ministry with SoulMatters, we will be seeing some wonderful enhancements that come with deep continuity across the congregation not only Sunday Morning but throughout the entire week. This also means that we would like to encourage you to bring PrairieUU home with you by having your copies of our Singing the Living Tradition and Singing the Journey hymnals with you at home. If you have not yet received a copy. Please contact Rhonda and we get copies out to you as soon as possible.

Please remember that I continue to be available for pastoral care, conversations, and connections. I am available to chat, catch up etc. Please continue to schedule appointments, and calls with me. You can schedule a time via my Google Calendar or call/text me at 720-549-0531.

In Service,

From the Committee on Shared Ministry …

Please give a hearty welcome to our new LifeSpan leader, Jen Simon!

The COSM has been hard at work behind the scenes collecting data and information with a vision of looking forward to an even more welcoming and diverse PrairieUU. We are continuing to develop a plan to integrate the Widening the Circle report to the UUA with an eye on the specific recommendations that have come from the Justice League and others in developing the vision and mission of the congregation.

We have begun to look at our PrairieUU processes and in doing so requested information for the development of a plan for analyzing the music program regarding diversity, and the policy and procedure documents used by the Nominating committee so they can be delivered in a more transparent manner.

I would like to remind you and welcome you! Each Sunday, after service, there is a breakout session for the whole congregation to ask questions and provide feedback to the Board and COSM.

In Faith,

From the Board ...

Greetings!

The next Board Meeting is on August 19, 2020 at 7 pm. We have a number of agenda items such as electing a new Board Secretary, setting our annual goals, considering Pastor AJ's contract for the July 2021 to June 2022 year. We will, as always, have an open time on the agenda for members/friends to share ideas and concerns.

Please note that our discussions with the COSM, Board and Justice League about recommendations based on the UUA report Widening the Circle of Concern will now be on the 1st Tuesday of the month, September 8, 2020.
Join the Board and COSM during Sunday fellowship!

Please let me know if there are issues you would like to bring to the Board's attention. Members and Friends are invited to attend. A special time 7:15 pm to 7:30 pm will be open for members to share their ideas and concerns. If you have a specific agenda item please let me know.

In Covenant,

Vivian LittlefieldPresident
Lifespan Education

Hi, PrairieUU!

Thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself and to tell you how excited I am to join you as your Lifespan Education Coordinator!

You can call me Jen, and my pronouns are they/them or she/her. I live with my partner Eric, a UCC music director, my son Gabe, who is a new middle schooler (!), and one very energetic puppy. I am a candidate for UU ministry and a proud biracial Black woman, and I am particularly interested in education in UU spaces about white supremacy culture and the history of BIPOC folks in UUism.

I look forward to exploring with you what religious education might look like in these interesting and challenging times, and in discovering new ways of learning together in community.

Rhonda’s Ribbons

If you have questions regarding Breeze and the Google Suite I am available both Sunday morning and at Tech Talk on Tuesday afternoon.

Did you know that if you use the Gmail app on your mobile device or Gmail.com from your computer browser that you can now click the link in your email to directly connect you to our PrairieUU Sunday Services, Fellowships, and other google meet activities?

My office hours for other general church business are Monday through Thursday 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. We can make an appointment outside of those hours as needed.

Sincerely,
Ministry Opportunities
ACTION NEEDED - Bringing PrairieUU Home
Contact: Rhonda W

Beginning September, we will not be able to publish all song lyrics for the streaming worship services.

If you would like a hymnal (gray, teal or both) so that you can easily sing along at home during the Sunday morning services, send a message to Rhonda W. We will arrange to "check out" the hymnals to you.

We will be using ‘Soul Matters’, a lifespan curriculum for the 2020-2021 year. As such, it is very important that we maintain best practices for copyright purposes.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Life-Transitions Support Group - NEW
Wednesday, August 12 at 6:30
Contact: Dave L or Fran L.

Do you need someone to talk with, who's gone through a similar life transition?  Would you like someone to help guide you to find your own path through a difficult time?  Are you going through a divorce?  Have you been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness or disease?  Are you living in an abusive relationship?  Have you lost one or more loved ones?

Any of these situations, and many others, can be very difficult to navigate alone.  Many have found that getting together with others in the same 'boat,' and telling your stories, can be very healing and helpful.  My wife and I have facilitated such support groups in the past.  Our own personal histories include having gone through many of these issues.  We have been through divorces, survived life-threatening illnesses and diseases, lost loved ones, both young and old, and experienced abusive relationship situations.  Our facilitation style is primarily based on listening to people's stories, telling our own stories in similar situations, and using open questions to help you discover your own path through these life transitions.

We will be meeting on the second Wednesday of every month.
Sunday - What's Love Got To Do With It
Sunday, August 16, 10:00 am

All you need is love. Love will guide us. There is more love somewhere. Our music and our words lift up the importance of love in our lives and what we do as Unitarian Universalists, but what does it mean to love and be loved?
