Social Spotlight: Madison

Madison social.jpg

The purpose of the social spotlight section of our district newsletter is to highlight fun, exciting, and innovative digital initiatives happening across our district.

Our first-ever social spotlight is on Madison Elementary and their new Instagram account! Madison is using Instagram to spotlight the work happening in classrooms across their school. We love how they have given each teacher/classroom a bitmoji highlight bubble to pin classroom stories. The way Madison is sharing allows each teacher to be highlighted by the things we are accomplishing in our classrooms.

Follow Madison on Instagram @wawmmadison for more exciting content!

“West Allis Street Jams” a Huge Hit!

On Saturday, September 18th, WAWM RCS partnered with the City of West Allis Events Department and the West Allis Police Department to bring music and joy to the streets of West Allis. West Allis Street Jams was created last year during the COVID-19 pandemic to encourage community members to get outside, walk away from their electronics and screens, and see their neighbors. Due to its huge success, the WAWM RCS Department decided to make it an annual event. The focus has shifted to enjoying all the benefits music and dancing have to offer, if only for a few minutes. Utilizing a wagon and mobile DJ, the WAWM RCS staff and families traveled throughout the city. Our goal was to energize and “hype” up the neighborhoods in celebration of the ending of summer and the beginning of fall. We traveled as far north, south, east, and west as possible to share the fun with as many families and communities as we could. Mark Lutz, West Allis Cheese & Sausage Shoppe owner, shared, “It was the most feel good uplifting community event I have witnessed.” Watch for the 3rd Annual “West Allis Street Jams” to come to your street in 2022!

Provide Input on COVID-Relief Funding

Our District is receiving Federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funding to support recovery from impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. We would like staff, students, families, and members of our community to complete a survey for their input on how to best utilize these funds to meet the needs of our students and families.

The list of options in the survey was developed by our Leadership Team, PTAs, and Union representatives. Teachers and school staff brought forward to their ideas to School Leaders, which are also included in this list of options. Facility needs were identified in building analyses completed by the construction management firm hired for our long-range facility planning.

There are a few criteria that should be considered as priorities are identified: student and staff safety, academic and social/emotional needs of students, number of students and staff impacted, and ongoing versus one-time cost.

Please complete this survey by Friday, October 29th, 2021.
