July, 2020
Dear Chamber Members,

With my first Chamber greeting, I’d first like to thank Dustin Beck for his service this past year. To be sure, the last few months of his tenure saw some unprecedented changes occur; we value the leadership that he brought to the Chamber Board.
Truly this is beginning to feel like a summer like no other – no Giro d’ Grafton, no 4 th of July celebration and no Ladies Night Out to look forward to. However, we have seen more families partaking in outdoor sports and activities, biking on the Interurban Trail and hiking at Lion’s Den Gorge. Slowly we are seeing businesses re-open and welcoming folks back, most with new precautions in place. We are also looking forward to the start of our Summer Farmer’s Market (grab-and-go style), which will be held in the Twin City Plaza parking lot on Thursdays from 10am to 2pm starting July 9 th . Drop in to check out the variety of produce, honey, flowers, etc and support local businesses. During this time we hope that you find the Chamber’s weekly newsletters informative and a place to highlight your business. We encourage you to renew your membership (invoices will be sent this month)and to look to become involved in a new activity through the Chamber this year – Young Professionals, ONCE or any number of seminars or activities during this upcoming year.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely ,

Mary Karnitz
Chamber President

Village of Grafton 2020 Construction Update - 7/1/2020

1 st Avenue Reconstruction – The Village will be reconstructing the roadway of 1 st Avenue (both northbound and southbound) from Highland Drive to Washington Street. The road is closed to through traffic for the duration of the project, until late August. The BIKE LANE is also closed, and bicycle traffic should utilize the downtown loop of the Interurban Trail instead. The contractor began work in June with excavation for the bio-swales in the grass median. The bio-swales will help filter out contaminants in storm water before the water further enters the storm system piping. Work this week continues with old stone base removals, preparing the roadbed and placement of new base materials.

17 th Avenue Lift Station – The Village is replacing the sanitary sewage lift station on 17 th Avenue near Nancy Lynn Court. The contractor began work in June with updates to the existing sewer main. This project is anticipated to take several months to complete.

WWTP New Headworks Facility – The Village is constructing a new facility along the back of the Wastewater Treatment Plant property, adjacent to Falls Road. The headworks facility separates out the large particles before sending the liquids for further treatment, and will replace a portion of the old original 1970’s plant. Excavation for the new building continues.

Blue Stem Residential Subdivision – Underground utilities were installed over the winter for Phase 2 of this development and roadway work is currently underway. Phase 2 includes the extension of Cheyenne Avenue to the south property line and all development to the west of Cheyenne Avenue.

River Bend Meadows Residential Subdivision - Underground utilities were installed over the fall/winter for Phase 1 of this development and roadway work is currently underway. Phase 1 extends the existing River Bend Road to the east to Port Washington Road.

Shady Hollow Residential Subdivision - Underground utilities were installed over the winter for Phase 3 of this development and grading and roadway is currently underway.

Ozaukee County Highway Department -  Plans to mill and repave asphalt on CTH W from CTH C (Pioneer Road) to Opportunity Drive (just north of Falls Rd). Construction is slated to start next week and will take several weeks to complete. Traffic will remain open throughout the project but will be limited to one-way with flaggers.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT)
Has several projects occurring around Ozaukee County as follows:
- STH 60 from Washington County line to Five Corners (STH 181/CTH NN/Washington Ave/Covered Bridge Rd): Asphaltic Overlay, planned for late April start.
- STH 60 & CTH Y (Granville Road): New Roundabout Construction. County Y (Granville Rd.) will close to all traffic at 6:00 am, Monday June 8 th and remain closed until early September. STH60 remains closed to all but local traffic between Eagle Drive and WIS 181 (Village of Jackson). Maple Road access remains closed at STH60.
- I-43 Bridges: Various work on multiple bridges from STH 60 to CTH D, started a couple of weeks ago. Expect daily I-43 lane closures and night-time full closures.
