Respect Life Ministry
The Supreme Court announced its decision in the June Medical Services v. Russo case this week. The Court ruled 5 to 4 to strike down the Louisiana law that requires abortion doctors to have hospital admitting privileges.
Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City in Kansas and chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee for Pro-Life Activities issued a statement expressing that:

The Court’s failure to recognize the legitimacy of laws prioritizing women’s health and safety over abortion business interests continues a cruel precedent. As we grieve this decision and the pregnant women who will be harmed by it, we continue to pray and fight for justice for mothers and children. Read the full statement. 

Biking for Babies

The Office for Human Dignity is seeking candidates for the ministry position of Justice and Peace Ministry Associate Director. The Associate Director leads the Office in assisting Catholics of the Joliet Diocese in knowing and embracing their faith and addressing such issues as racial justice, poverty, faithful citizenship, human rights, immigration reform, domestic and international policy, peace, and care for creation. In promoting respect for human life and dignity, the Office works through programs such as justice education, formation and support for Parish Peace and Justice Committees, Somos Iglesia en Camino , Catholic Relief Services, and the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. In addition, this Office resources other diocesan agencies regarding the Social Doctrine of the Church.

Missionary Cooperative Plan Spotlight
Diocese of Mandeville
Patricia Morgan, a 55 year-old mother of four children, living in Grosmond, St. Elizabeth, is struggling to make ends meet. Patricia, along with her children and grandchildren, have been living in a tiny dwelling that was both unsafe and acutely overcrowded. Sr. Agnes Mwangi recognized that Patricia was in need of urgent help and requested that a house be built for Patricia and her family.
