October 2021 Sermon Series Beyond Normal:
The Future of the Christian Church in America.
A phrase that gets said a lot these days is, “I just want things to go back to normal.” Everyone has their meaning in using this phrase, but usually, it is said because we remember what life was like before COVID-19 and prefer that life over now. In reality, the preCOVID “normal” had its struggles and challenges, especially the state of the Christian church in America. Overall mainline Christian churches in America have been declining in participation and membership for decades. This pandemic has accelerated the need to reevaluate who we are as a church and what God is calling us to do. One thing is for sure; we cannot go back to normal; we need to go beyond normal.
Each week in October, we will be focusing on a different aspect of how we can go beyond normal. As we get ready to celebrate the Reformation, we will be talking about how we as a church need to reform for the future. We will also be highlighting many of our ministries and discovering how each person can use their time, talents, and financial resources to further God’s plan for Advent.
You are invited to come as God leads and guides us on this journey to discover who we are and what God wants us to do.
Week 3: October 16/17
Theme: What does God want us to do?
Jesus calls us to make, teach, and send disciples of Jesus to build up God's kingdom. As we vision together, what does beyond normal ministry look like? What do we need to reform to make, teach, and send disciples in today's world?
