Hello everyone,
I hope you are getting some much needed rest now that the school year is wrapping up. I know, I know the last thing you want to hear about is another zoom meeting. But here I am, just a UD standing in front of a member asking you to attend the membership drive training on Tuesday, June 23rd.
So often members call us throughout the year with issues that, if they had decent membership, they could easily push back on and win. Trying to solve these issues without a base is like trying to get on a moving train.
I know we're exhausted, but I do urge you to consider using the summer to plan how you will have a voice in what school looks like next year, growing your union and making sure we elect pro-public education politicians.
Locals that have already signed up for June 23rd include: Sturgeon Bay, Howard-Suamico
, Sevastopol, Manitowoc, Marinette, Seymour, Southern Door, Pulaski, and Ashwaubenon!
The agenda includes how to talk about your union, answer hard questions, utilize online platforms, and a conversation about merging our EA locals with support staff.
RSVP HERE!
Feel free to reach out with any questions!
In Solidarity,
Kristin Lytie

We'll be discussing how to make the membership ask virtually, how to use various online platforms to your advantage, and engage your fellow members!

WEAC Provides Updates On Safe Return to School
WEAC has the safety of students, staff and communities at the forefront as school districts begin planning for schools to reopen. With many questions and concerns to address, educators are urging collaboration between local administrators, unions/education associations and other community stakeholders. Here are the latest updates
as we continue lead efforts in preparing for a safe return to school at the local, state and national levels:
As local school districts make plans for whatever may come next fall, WEAC is encouraging local unions to contact administrators with a request to be at the table. Together with local leaders, WEAC has created a
Safe Return to School Platform
for schools. We have also partnered with education groups, including the state Departments of Public Instruction and Health Services, to inform statewide guidance for reopening schools, which the DPI is planning to release the week of June 22.
Our union – at the local, state and national levels – is at the forefront when it comes to including educators in back-to-school decisions. There is no other organization that speaks with one voice in the best interest of teachers, education support professionals and our students. Please be sure to spread the word about our efforts to educators who haven’t yet joined our union and
invite them to become a member

Region 3 Special Education Networking Meeting
During our weekly Region 3 zoom meetings, it became apparent that what is happening in one district with Special Ed varies wildly from district to district. It was decided that these educators could benefit greatly by strategizing, sharing best practices and asking each other questions. So, let's do it!
When: July 16, 2020 @ 4:00 PM
Register in advance for this meeting:
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Teachers are required to submit a background check to the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) every five years. For lifetime or master educator license holders, the year in which you submit your background check corresponds to the year your license would have expired. Any license holder who last renewed their license in 2015 must submit an application for a background check by June 30. For provisional license holders, your background check is due 5 years after your lifetime license begins.

EDUCATION SUPPORT PERSONNEL CONNECTION CALL
|
|
Region 3 has created an
ESP Connection Call
to check in with one another, keep each other in the loop and plan our next steps. This zoom meeting was organized by Sue Smits, long time ESP activist and advocate, because she recognized the need for this conversation to take place. Now more than ever ESP staff need to be in contact with each other to discuss what their districts are doing, best practices and how to implement them in their own district. The global pandemic has revealed that schools are the social safety nets for many of our communities and that those safety nets work because you do.
Please join us on Thursday, July 7 at 4 pm via zoom to participate in this important conversation.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Please join your colleagues for a VIRTUAL Leaders for Just Schools to be held online on Monday, July 27 & Tuesday, July 28 from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Leaders for Just Schools will be led by WEAC members, Kelly Sullivan, Jennifer Voigt, Maiwa Lor and Nick Schwei.
Educators who have a commitment to equity and want to build just schools should attend this two-day session on the Zoom meeting platform. WEAC is seeking educators who want to learn how to ensure all students have the skills and are empowered to be successful, and who want to develop schools where all stakeholders feel valued and are supported to both see and achieve their potential. WEAC believes that educators can create education systems where all students have an equitable opportunity for excellence, and that begins with each of us understanding how to use our voices to advocate for
Equity
and
Just Schools
