Happy 100th Crouch Branch!
Photo: Crouch Branch Library then (1958) and now.
In November we will being celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Crouch Branch Library. Originally known as the Southeast Branch, its creation was the result of public petitioning for a library in the densely populated Hamilton Road neighbourhood. Parents no longer wanted their children crossing the dozen or so train tracks to get to the East Branch (now the Carson Branch) and the Library Board was able to meet this growing demand. On November 3, 1921 London Public Library secured a lease at 435 Hamilton Road, where the library opened eight weeks later on December 28.

Since then, Crouch Branch has celebrated a number of significant milestones:
  • The Southeast Branch moved to its current location at 550 Hamilton Road in 1925
  • In 1958, a new building was created and the library was renamed in tribute to the long-serving and influential LPL Chief Librarian, Richard E. Crouch
  • The Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Centre was created in 1970 and was the first Canadian multi-service, interagency community centre to be housed in a branch library. Services included on-the-spot counselling and crisis intervention, health services, information and referral services and group programs
  • The current building opens on February 1, 2003 where staff continue to serve the Hamilton Road community alongside the Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Centre.

Join us at Crouch Branch Library from November 2-6 for a historical display and children’s activities to celebrate the centennial!
Library Notes for Ontario Public Library Week
Our community is awesome! Your support and patience has meant the world to us as we made our way through moving our programs, resources and services online to launching pick up service to finally welcoming you back to our branches.

This year, for Ontario Public Library Week (October 17 - 23), we invite you to share a note of appreciation with your local branch. Just slip your note into your returned items or right through the return chute. We always love hearing about what matters to you.
